Experts in HVAC have known for years that SEER, (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) as the main rating for comparing HVAC systems, was flawed! Starting in 2023, SEER2 will become the primary rating on air conditioning and heat pump systems and may replace SEER completely. In this video, Josh discusses the upcoming changes and what it means for the HVAC industry.

Question for you: if I have a ten year old split system 96% gas furnace and ac in good condition that I'm thinking of replacing with a inverter heat pump, can I get some "trade in value" for the old equipment? It still has some life left and I feel like it would be worth at least a few hundred dollars.

Being someone who is hot natured ,meaning I like it really cool in my home. My thermostat is usually set at 69 degrees in the summer. This being the case I haven't had the best relationships with hvac contractors at all. I never have bought into the whole seer ratings of hvac systems. I have in the past replaced equipment that was working perfectly with higher seer equipment in the hopes of saving on electricity only to be disappointed because the so called higher seer unit couldn't cool as good as the system it replaced. I say this because in all my years of fighting hvac contractors I will say that the inverter heat pumps actually do live up to the hype. Not only does it save me on electricity but it removes humidity and cools better.

Just more nonsense. Soon it will be as easy as deciphering the R value of windows. They use U value so people wont be able to easily compare it to common insulation values. If they could they would realize it is just a hole in the wall. lol Are you in Ottawa ?

Where moo lives in SoCal its hitting 100F day after day. I was told to ignore SEER which is tested in milder climates and just go by EER when choosing efficiency. Wonder if SEER2 does anything to improve on that.

Green horseshit energy. Its all for China. I heard all new A/C units have to have there own pronouns.

    Interesting.
So whatever happened to (energy out)/(energy in)? That's real efficiency. Is that really too complicated for the market, or two simple for manufacturers?

Ever notice how the seer thing came into play about the time of the disappearance of r22? Coincidence? Or were the newer units less efficient at temperature extremes and they wanted a way to disguise that?

  8. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Brian Hopkins says:

Oh boy, more expensive units that aren't as reliable and don't last as long. isn't progress great?

The green elite rich will fight to stop use of AC. While they ride in AC, have it in their yachts and mansions.

With Lennox after Jan 1 you won’t be able to install the ML14XC straight cool units anymore you will have to switch to the new ML17XC line which hasn’t even been launched yet. It’s going to screw over a bunch of RNC contractors.

There's a larger worry than SEER v. SEER 2. It's that we have well-paid government regulators dictating what can and cannot be installed with little to no concern for the costs that imposes. That'd particularly true in the hot-and-humid SE U.S. Quite a few elderly people aren't going to be able to afford high SEER 2 standards for air conditioning that for them is a health necessity. And talking about a ten-year return on investment makes no sense for someone who may have only five years to live. They should not have to live out their last years coping with 90+ degree temperatures and 90% humidity, so some DC bureaucrat can pay himself on the back for his virtue-signaling.
