I have a salt water pool but I still like to have a floater with 4 chlorine pucks floating around should I just stop doing this or is it ok
Even with saltwater especially during summer it doesn’t hurt to add some chlorine
I have a saltwater pool with an Aqua-Rite chlorine generator. I "converted" the pool to a salt pool nearly 10 years ago. I highly recommend all pool owners to do this. The water feels silky smooth, there is never any chlorine smell (and chlorine smell is actually caused by a too-low free chlorine level), and once I get the pH (the single most important pool chemistry metric!) correct early in the spring the pool just basically sits there happily all summer long with minimal maintenance.
I do keep tri-chlor tablets and cal hypo granules on hand, but honestly I rarely ever need use them to shock the pool during the season. The chlorine generator keeps the chlorine at about 2-3 PM all season. I keep the CYA level around 50 PPM so prevent chlorine "burn off" by the sun.
And if using salt to convert to chlorine, make sure the pool is bonded, otherwise, the pool and equipment will erode over time. Are you in Orleans ?
The customer told me they have been shocking their pool every week with 2 two three lbs of salt….it does not work that way…
These work well if the pH is maintained, unfortunately it’s not easy outdoors in the UK due to our weather systems. Also make sure all of your pool components are okay to use with salt water.
