In this video, Joshua Griffin compares the Daikin Fit to a Rheem single-stage heat pump system. He tests the decibel levels and the simple sound levels when having a conversation or hearing them outside the home. He also goes through not just how quiet the Daikin Fit is, but also the space it takes up, the clearance it requires, and other benefits in addition to being an efficient communicating inverter system. Homeowners are looking for better solutions to their HVAC needs, including many of the benefits the Daikin Fit offers.

Today we're on location, we're doing a video where we're going to compare a unitary single stage type heating and air system to the Dike and Fit a communicating inverter style system. And so a lot of folks when they're comparing systems, they don't quite consider how quiet these systems are. If you've got a unitary Cube style trash can style where the fan blows out the top type unit, if it's near your bedroom, you're going to hear that at night. We're going to do this video showing you the sound differences.

Do an actual test of the decibel levels of the two units, so you can compare them and see that the fit is significantly quieter. A lot of folks think when they see the fit, they think like a mini split. they see a side discharge unit, they see the fan blowing out the front, and they don't realize that it can be paired with a furnace, an air handler, and be hooked up to ductwork just like a traditional Heating and Air system. Another thing to note that Dike and Fit can be paired as an air conditioning, outdoor unit, or a heat pump.

The difference is the fit. being an communicating inverter system can save you up to 30 percent on your utility bills. and it's also super quiet now. I Want to say real quick before we get started.

When you see the decibel levels, a lot of people think when they see you know one or two decibels, they don't quite understand how big the difference is in sound levels. When you go from a standard conversation around 60 decibels to 90 decibels like a lawn mower, the difference is not just 30 decibels, not just 30 times. It's actually a thousand times louder to your ear. So as you'll see in this video as we show you the decibel levels, there's a significant difference in how quiet an inverter system like the Dike and Fit is.

So let's get started. And so right now neither unit is running you can see my voicemail makes you know I'm right up on the camera so it's making it jump up to over over 70 decibels. and so we're gonna get this fit running so you can see how loud it is. And so now we've got our fit running here.

We're going to test the decibel level of the fit and you see it jumping up quite dramatically with me talking. So let's see what the fit is running at when we get right up to it. and so if I step away from the fit, we'll see how far I can walk before I can hardly even here at running I'm probably about 20 feet away and I can just barely hear the fit running now I can hear some air barely running if somebody was standing right beside me I don't think I would have to raise my voice to talk to them with the fit running and if I were inside my home. unlike a lot of non-inverter systems where I can still hear it running outside the window I don't think I would hear the fit as well and now we're going to walk up to this unit.

I'm going to stop talking so you can watch the decibel level on what this unit is running at. So I'm having to raise my voice right now to talk to you while this unit is running. We're also going to walk away from this unit about 20 to 25 feet to see how loud it is and if we can still hear it running. and so here I am about 20 to 25 feet away it's still loud I still have to raise my voice if someone was standing here if I was talking to I would have to raise my voice because of how loud this unit is.
Another thing I Want to show you guys if you look at the fit is how much smaller it is. so it's only a 14 inch wide cabinet, whereas the single stage unit over here is 30 inches. I don't even know that the camera does it justice on how much smaller the unit is. significantly smaller footprint.

You can even see where the old unit that we replaced on this platform, how much room it took up, and it also does not require as much clearance. so a lot of unitary style systems require 12 to 18 inches of clearance back behind the unit between the a wall or some other obstruction, whereas the fit only requires four inches so you would be able to get this small cabinet and this very small four inches I Mean you'd be able to fit that in a lot of places. So that's it guys. I Wanted to show you that sound difference.

Have you considered a system like this or this for your home? I Think it's a no-brainer I Also did a video on the fit that you can click on right here that we go through all the benefits of buying a fit. If you want more information on the fit, I'll put a link down in the description. Let me know your thoughts. Comment down below.

Daikin fit 12k capilar or Eletronic

I'm considering a 3.5 ton Daikin Fit. I had the chance to listen to a 1.5 ton Fit run at a neighbor's house. It was very quiet. How should I expect the 3.5 ton to sound by comparison? I'm concerned about outside noise, not inside. My unit will be less than two feet from a brick wall.

Noise comparison is not the only way to compare units, cost to operate, repair, efficiency & longevity.

What’s up the the nuts on the outdoor txv’s on Goodman? Got a buddy that installs Goodman and had several callbacks for no cooling. The nuts are breaking apart and complete loose of charge. Of course they offered to make it right by giving him a new nut. 5 day old unit I told him make them give you a new outdoor just because of all the refrigerant he was going to be out.

Great stuff. I’d love a tour of a Skyair system if you have installed one

Good video. My two stage higher SEER Goodman unitary (installed July 2022) is really quiet outside once running but there’s always that initial start up jolt. Obviously something like the Fit carries some advantages, especially in terms of clearance, noise, and efficiency. Those are some pretty big pros. I like the unit I purchased, that said, but space isn’t a huge issue and I live in a 200 year old double brick walled structure. Service area Kanata??

  7. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Louis S says:

What are the prices for the two units? How about comparison part replacement prices? What about the reliability comparison? If one unit costs a lot more in repairs then it may be financially better to go with the other unit.

    Good to see ya!!!

I was always told no filter/drier because its an obstruction (pressure drop) and theres no need because you were flowing nitro if you were brazing

Does the Daikin require a new evap coil install as well and is the evap fan also variable speed or just single stage??

Hey there Josh!, one of your Tuesday night regulars here. I was VERY pleased (as a music/audiophile), that you were using the A weighting. So many do not know the differences between the two and just what they are measuring. I have a story about the Mitsubishi and my neighbors, but I will save that for your live show ….and, good to see you at full scale, vs. half a man πŸ˜‰. See you Tuesday night for more HVAC topics!

I put a 410A, A/C only 3.5 Ton version of the Rheem you show there. I can tell you for a fact that you can hear that sucker inside the house. I did not know that the inverter compressors could be installed with an add-a-coil ac system. Mine is rated at 72db but the frequency travels pretty far. Now that I know, when the Rheem stops working it will be replaced by an inverter. The difference is crazy!

I like this style of video where you are out in the field and showing products. Props for the change in style for this content. Great stuff πŸ‘

I like these units. I may get one once the R32 units become available in the US. Service area Nepean??

Hi josh, why have you got a liquid line dryer fitted? Not needed sir πŸ˜‰

  19. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Joe Bass says:

It's amazing how quiet the 3 ton Fit HP is. I had a preventative service appointment and the two techs weren't sure it was running but the compressor was on and indoor blower running. They were amazed at the whisper quiet. Are you in Ottawa ?

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Davil says:

Dave here, I installed my Goodman 16 seer split system 8 years ago, it works awesome! 2 stage heat/ cool and variable speed fan. I did replace the fan module last year. Would you consider selling me a Daiken Fit to replace my outdoor unit, as a quiet upgrade?
