A spark that's breaking out can't make a St can't turn back Now we know that there's no room for D no we can take back now I'll see danger in your eyes. They know will bur down the night on just like the sun rise, you know that we going to light it light. We going to let it. We going to let it.

just it a hey everybody live from Virginia USA uh heating and air questions taking your questions live and if I don't know the answer maybe one of the other Pros that join us will uh very different show for you guys tonight. we're still going to do all the things that we normally do. but I'm gonna start tonight's show off a little different I still have a story I know I usually start every show out with a story and I do still have a story but I wanted to start out tonight's show I was I was going to do a long form video for YouTube uh on this subject and I said you know I don't know I don't know that it's perfect for video uh but it would be perfect to start a live show out with and um if you couldn't tell from the title of tonight's show um I actually found somebody that copycatted I don't know if that's a word they copycatted uh, some of my videos and you know it's not uncommon in our industry to uh, you know I don't say our industry It's not uncommon on YouTube for folks to um, you know, share ideas right? I mean if if if I see a YouTube video from another uh heating and air channel um and they share something amazing that I think you guys my viewers should know or or you know even if I think it would make a great video, it's not uncommon to share information and ideas and and it's not uncommon for me to read articles right? I'll I'll read articles on our YouTube channel from time to time and uh so it's not. that's not uncommon.

um and you know and I'll even go un even further is it's not uncommon for YouTubers to copy other YouTubers right? Um, you know I think one example of that would be for any of you that knows who Mr Beast is. He's probably the most famous uh YouTuber out there. he's the biggest now at least in America he is and he gets copied all the time. you know they'll you can tell when they're copying him, it's his style and his type of content.

and the way he starts out his videos and so uh, you know I this is the first time I have found someone I I've seen other folks uh, copy me in that you know if I have a video do really well on a particular topic I've noticed there's at least one or two specific one guy in particular I've noticed He'll Do videos very similar to mine, right? and so again, that's just not. It's just not. uncommon, right? It's it's it's not. It's nothing to be upset about.

Uh, it is what it is, right? But this is the first time I've seen someone literally copy me and you know I I'm flattered. you know, a little bit. but at the same time I'm like, hey, that's my content. You know that's if you want to sponsor my content.

Great. You know it's a company. it's not another. YouTuber It's a company that copied me and we'll get into that in just a second.
Um, but not only did this company copy copy me, um, they also, uh, before they copied me, reached out to me and said they'd like to work with me and then they ghosted me just like a a girlfriend would, right? If you take her out on a couple dates and then all of a sudden she stops responding, that's kind of what they did. Um, I'll show you this email, the company's called and and you know I I I'm going to tread lightly I'm not going to say anything I'm not going to say call them names I'm not I'm just going to state facts. They can't sue me if I'm stating facts and the first fact that I'll state is they reached out to me originally they reached out to me if, uh, if you see this tab here, this is an email from that company uh, sent back in 2022. So 2022 is the first time they reached out to me and they basic basically said hey, we we want to work with you and we want to sponsor your content and so on and I responded and we actually exchanged multiple emails until they eventually last March stopped responding and that's fine that companies do that all the time, right? But then fast forward to this video.

If you look, um here, let me show you guys real quick. my video that it's my most watched video It's called three Secrets that Heating and Air Guys don't want you to know. So this is that video and I'm not going to bore you with watching the entire video, especially if you've seen it, but I just want to show you right here the first. So the three Secrets I share in that video are the first one is companies will gouge you if they're busy, right? and and I've heard other guys say well that's supply and demand and I think there's there that's valid.

There is a such thing as as you know folks becoming more valuable if they're in more Demand right? So so there's there's that. But then there's are guys that just simply take advantage. They gouge folks when they can. Okay, so that's the first secret.

The second secret I Share in that video is how some companies will add batteries to thermostats that don't need them. They'll add batteries that will malfunction. and even if the the uh thermostat is hardwired, it is possible for Batteries to uh cause issues. Okay, and then the Third Secret I share in that video is contractors sometimes lick about your warranty coverage.

They'll say you're not covered under warranty, your warranty is no longer valid and I give folks the opportunity to check their own warranties on our website. Okay, so that's the three first three secrets that I share in that video. Let me show you this is their video. and here here's their first secret contractors gouging because they're busy contract So that's the first secret.

Okay, if you remember my first secret and and the thing thing is their video, their video is probably a little better made than mine. I made it mine way several years ago when I was first starting to make YouTube videos. So there's their first secret. their second secret: insert faulty or half dead batteries into thermostats that are hard so they insert faulty batteries.
So there's the second secret. and here's their third secret: Contractors lie about Hbac warranty coverage is anybody else? I I got Again, it's not uncommon for folks to copy one another, but I'm like it's almost my it's my video like they literally just remade my video. Now you may say well Josh their theirs is called five Secrets yours is only three I'm glad you said that If about a year ago after seeing the success of the first video, I made another video. Here's my my next video that I'll show you and this video was called three new Secrets Three new secrets that HVAC contractors don't want you to know.

and in this video the first two secrets that I share is the first one is some contractors will if you see right here I wrote Rich Customers Some contractors will change their pricing based on who the customer is. so if they find out the customer is well to do. if they find out they're a lawyer or a doctor or some other profession that is known to be more well off, they'll adjust their prices. You know some of them are are a little crooked and they'll do that.

they'll They'll adjust their prices because they know the customer can pay it right and then the second Secret in this video sorry I got to deal with a uh you probably know Vistaprint for business cards. yeah we print that but did you know we also the second secret I share in this video Negative: Oh come on views the nightmare of every business owner introducing pop cart the ultim got a love commercial. There are lots of all right. And so the second secret that I share in this video is how some contractors will lie about that and say that they're licensed and insured and you can go watch those videos if you want again.

I'm not going to make you sit through them I'm probably I am probably. You guys know I'm probably more long- winded than they are. But so there's those two secrets. So the first one in this video is how customers or companies will change their prices if the customer more well off.

and the second one is contractors will lie and say they're licensed and insured. When they're not here, we go. Here's their fourth: Secret look at that. So there there's their next one.

and then finally their fifth secret. Here you go. So I'm you know again. at first I was a little frustrated I was mad I think what one thing that made it to where I wasn't quite so mad is that their video has not done very well.

they don't There's a number of things they're not very good at and I'm not going to tell them what they are. uh, they I would I would say that their videoos probably better made than mine with these popups and the B-roll they used, but there's other things they're not very good at. They've only got 685 subscribers and um, they're just there. There's some things they're missing I'm not going to tell them what they are because they'll fix them but I was floored when I found it I I was like you know, maybe I should be flattered, but I am a little frustrated that they you know they first reached out to me to be a sponsor and then instead of supporting me, they stole my video.
they stole my ideas and went and and I guess paid someone to make this video or you know, make this better made. Maybe that's what it was. they didn't like the quality of my videos I I don't know but anyway I just thought that was crazy I wanted to start tonight's show out and just show you guys. um we're not seeing the videos Craig says you guys aren't seeing this video right here Craig says y'all aren't seeing the video so just take my word for it if you want to look it up.

uh you're welcome to um but yeah it it's just crazy that that you know what a crazy crazy uh thing I Found that this past week I was actually um looking for something particular for a video we were making and came across it and I was like oh they they made a they made a Secrets video too wonder what their secrets are and they were mine. They were the ones that I uh you know said and so I was just floored. so um oh I I think I see why you guys weren't seeing the videos? It's because I wasn't sharing. There we go.

I'm sorry. uh so there's there's their fifth secret. They lied about it being licensed, insured and then here's their fourth one. they price price increase for rich clients so my it's it's literally my videos.

So anyway what are y'all What do y'all think you know comment Down Below in the chat section I uh I'll get off of that, some of you probably uh, came here for better things than to hear me rant and Rave about um, this particular uh topic. um but anyway, it's just crazy H All right, let's get back to our chat. um anyway Bob Good to see you Steve Mark D Nell hopefully I'm saying that right, we're gonna call you Nell I like uh, Dell 68 that was my football number when I played football in high school 68. Um, so maybe that's why it's your number two I don't know Bruce Good to see you John Any news on the Dy and fit? uh, the newer one.

No news yet but I think it's coming pal, it's coming I Had someone else ask the exact same question and uh I think that they are just trying to get the Am Mana and the Goodman new side discharge units completely rolled out and then and then that newer fit um should be next in line I Can tell you that I was told originally because the question I originally received was are they waiting for R32 to come out the new refrigerants and I believe the answer to that is no that they are not waiting for that. Uh, so anyway Steve says ain't nobody copying me Flattery will get you nowhere Steve Um, you know I This is the first time I've seen it this blatant again. I've seen other guys steal ideas and and things like that. I've seen other guys since that was the other thing.
I Forgot to show you guys their video is only 10 months old, my videos are a couple years old, one is two years and one is only a year, but my videos definitely came out before theirs did. Um, so it ain't a coincidence. Um so anyway Adrian Say It Ain't So yeah um, you ain't made it until you got some haters or until they copy you. Yeah, hopefully that means I made it Bruce I didn't I didn't hear the fourth and fifth secrets I'm not sure sure but I everybody else? yeah I forgot to swap the screens over but I um you guys get the point.

Um, you have to redo. yeah. so I swapped it over there. hopefully you guys saw it but or or you can go look at it.

Um, you know they would probably appreciate you looking at it. uh and giving them more views. Uh yeah. so uh Adrian says we Riot I think there's enough of those, right? Uh, V says did they get as many views? No there.

theirs did really bad and I'm okay with that. I think I think there's a few things that they're not doing very well aside from the video and I'm not gonna tell them what those are. uh, you know. um Mike W Welcome everybody to the show By the way, all of you that have commented thank you for joining us Mike says I'm out a I'm about to get a whole new Hbac system I'm in Philadelphia 10K was the quote is this good? Mike I would get more than one quote Uh, just to find out if that's good? Uh, it's There's too many variables for me to answer that question.

I Can tell you that you know Philadelphia is probably G to be a higher cost of living than say, the rural part of West Virginia You know, so you you might pay a higher price than what other folks would um, but I I Just recommend everyone to get at least three quotes. Try to get the quotes to be generally for the same type of stuff you know, maybe not the same brand, but at least the same specs, the same you know, capacity, the same efficiency ratings, and so on. So you're comparing Apples to Apples and uh, you know that way you know that you're not getting taken advantage of. and the the other thing I'll just say Mike I Don't know if you've seen how much of my content you've seen But I Just tell everyone to find a good contractor.

You know, get multiple quotes, but find a contractor that gives you the warm fuzzy and then go from there. go with the brand they recommend, go with the you know, their pricing and so on. and sometimes the pricing affects that. How how warm and fuzzy they make you feel right? John Said it's it's said.

You should always upsize Flex duct one inch when changing out Supply Rigid duct. So should you replace the rigid duct one inch if switching from Flex duct? John I Think that there are times when yes, you, you know Flex Duck does have more friction. um, more static. higher static than than just regular round pipe.
But I think there's exceptions to every rule. There may be times when you're pulling out an 8 inch uh duct and you're going to put it back an 8 inch duct. It just kind of depends. and as long as that contractor is using a proper Uh ductulator, um, you know sometimes it may be a higher static.

but as long as they're doing everything right, it's not that much higher of a static, right? So um, I would just say that. All in all, um, you know, just make sure that they're doing things correctly, they're installing them correctly, but also using a Ducor to make sure everything's on the up and up and checking static pressures. Uh, that's a that's a big one that a lot of people I Don't know if it's you know laziness I Don't know if it's um, you know, just simply uh, not wanting I don't know, you know? uh, but a lot of guys just simply don't check static enough in my opinion. Strike the page for reuse.

con content I thought about doing that mic and that's up to y'all if y'all want to do that. but I'm I'm not I'm just going to leave it be for now. um and uh, you know, who knows I mean here's the thing, if if that company comes back around and and they change their tune and they want to uh, figure this out and and take that video down and work together, then fine, um, but you know I I think that this video me doing this says enough, You know. and and and I'll say this too.

I Tread so lightly because I had have had companies not not other YouTubers but actual companies attack me personally, attack me. uh they've they've gone on my company's Google page and written things and and given us bad reviews. and you know because because they don't want me to be honest, they wanna, they want to silence me. You know, not that I'm not that I'm not that big a deal I'm just honest right? If I think something is bad or horrible or whatever, I'll tell you.

but I will say that you know the company may be great I don't know them. um but someone at that company ain't Somebody showed their character and and you know, as I said we all exchange ideas. We all um you know if Adrien does a video that I'm like wow, that's really cool. My viewers need to hear that information too.

um then I You know that's not uncommon, right? You know? and and hopefully you know that's okay. If I I can tell you this, it's okay with me if if the tables were turned there. but I've never seen that I've never seen somebody literally say hey, Josh we want to work with you Oh and never mind, we're going to ghost you now and now we're going to just remake your content I think I Think that they thought they could just cut me out and get the same amount of views that I got on my videos because the videos that they copied are some of my most watched content, you know? So anyway, just crazy Gail says it is fine to rant and feel frustrated. They love your style.
Yeah, maybe they didn't love my style. Maybe that's why they uh, made their own video instead. Who knows Shinobi1 love the name. appreciate all the info you put out in your videos.

Thank you for your kind words. I'm trying to gather info and wisdom to switch to switch from a swamp cooler to some form of AC where are you located Shinobi I'm just curious. uh Scott says couldn't agree more with getting more than one quote. We just had our driveway sealed quotes range for $550 to $2,800 for the same service.

Wow, that's a big range too. For those of you who don't know, Scott is one of my best friends for uh, for years I Hope Scott's okay with me saying that. um I he was in my W or I'm sorry I I was in his wedding I should have had him in my wedding I had a bunch of people that were not lifelong friends like Scott uh in my wedding but um anyway. uh I I think here's the thing: I Think there is something to be said for you.

get what you pay for right? So if you get like four quotes and three of them are for ,000 and one of them is for $300 for the same job I Don't know that I'm gonna go with the $300 guy right? Am. It's a little odd if he's that much lower than everyone else. Why is he that much lower? Is he really licensed and insured? Is he really doing everything proper? You know? I think there is something to be said for that and think that that's why when you're Gathering quotes, it should be more than just Gathering the quote. It should be gathering information as well, getting their what? what's your opinion on this? You know, getting some uh some getting a feel for for the the folks you're about to do business with Mike says I definitely understand and will do so.

Thank you John says followup. So if you switch out duct and static it is off. What do you do to reinstall a differ size duct? Um well. flex duct is pretty easy.

you just literally buy a larger size. so Shinobi says I'm in Grand Junction Colorado um yeah, you're a little. North where is Grand Junction Grand Junction Colorado I'm not going to pretend to to know exactly where that is I'm just curious how close you are to well you are pretty close to Utah Okay yeah so you're not far from Moab which is where uh I helped a customer in Moab one time and she had a hard time finding somebody that would work on her swamp cooler and and AC and uh in fact I think some of the companies we talked to were out of Grand Junction So anyway uh I think swamp coolers are fine. you know in in in the right situations which is you know, low humidity you guys out there in the desert out there in the the western part of the United States and uh, 25 miles east of the Utah border.

So um yeah I I Do remember when I helped that customer in Moab how hard it was to find a couple good companies. uh Shinobi so I wish you luck. um I think you you being in Grand Junction should have more options than what she did. um so good luck with that.
Um let's now go to give me Just a second we're going to go to our story for the week and again I Normally start our shows out with a story but I instead I opted to uh show you guys that wonderful company and um, let's see. All right here is tonight's news for the day. tonight's use for The Day News for the day Uh well the President of the Houston Professional Firefighters Association says he is sick video themselves um this this looks like it comes from Houston uh which is a very large city if you've never been to Houston it's um, it's pretty big compared to Uh compared to the most of the the cities that I've been to. Um, it's much larger than Richmond Virginia Let's put it that way.

and so um Houston says Houston Fire Station number 23 Having to wait almost two months until New HVAC system is installed. uh Houston Fire Station number 23 will have to wait almost two months until its new Hbac system is replaced. The department is located in Lawdale. Street in Southeast Houston let me see if I can zoom in here a little better for you guys.

Come on there we go. Uh, it says quote This is just getting to the point where not only are the citizens, but the employees have had enough. Patrick l Lon President of the Houston Professional Firefighter ERS Association said the city of Houston's General Services Department first told Kprc2 that the new unit would be replaced on August 31st. The department oversees facilities in the city and blames the delay on an extended lead time.

Spokesperson said Quote: The contractor processed the order for replacement equipment on July 25th with a 12 to 16we lead time. The units have to be manufactured and anticipated. shipment date is between October 23rd and November 13, 2023. Uh wow.

So uh, how old is this article? I Don't see a date on it yet, but that would be now. you know that that means they're looking at delivery as in, you know this week it looks like some of the comments were from back in. September Um, so I'm going to assume that that's when that story came out. Umm yeah, I'm not seeing a date.

it's probably here somewhere and I'm just overlooking it. Quote: The city has gotten good at one thing and that is providing new excuses to Old problems. This guy was not holding back. The one thing they have not done is solved the problem.

Patrick Linkton said Linkon said it should not take that long to find a replacement. It's time for a change, It's time for the excuses to in and it's time for the firefighters to be respected and for them to be able to go to a work location. That and not have to worry about working air conditioning units and working apparatus instead. all they get his excuses he said.

Linkton said he is fed up with the excuses and how the city is managing the fire station. Quote: The first they first told you when you came with the story that it was going to be August 31st, then then in itself was UN That in itself was unacceptable and F the fact that we are now past August 31st and they are now giving you two months later is absolutely indicative of how this city treats not only its infastructure, but its employees. So he's blaming the city. He's not blaming the contractor for that lead time, which is interesting.
Back in July the city installed portable units across the department to help firefighters cool. Kpr 2s Relle Turner Asked LinkedIn if he believes the new unit will be installed in. October I Don't I Don't believe it takes that long for an air conditioning unit to be put in. Everybody that we have spoken to the business Community The Civic leaders and that have called based on your story are outraged.

Their response is, we can make calls to people and get this fixed in a day. Why can't the city get this fixed in four months during the hottest season? Let me let me show you how this is going to play play out. We are going to push it so far to where we get into the fall and no one is going to care about this story anymore. Guess what we've dealt with this year after year after year LinkedIn Said Houston City Council Member: Robert Galagos Galagos I'm probably not pronouncing that right, which is nothing new.

Represents District One and told Turner it was his first time hearing about the problem and his office is working to get in in touch with the firefighters at the station. you know I tell you one thing. I Think Well, a couple things. I I think one thing.

I'm glad to hear that they did give them some sort of Portables they gave them some sort of relief. Um, obviously it's not made this fella happy. I I Will say at our company that's something we do. we give portable units to.

you know if we have a customer that's going to have to wait longer um for a part and that will some times alleviate some of that frustration. Um, that said, um I you know I I don't know. So I don't know the situation I don't know why it took so long, but I I think another thing that would probably help is if whoever the contractor is if they had a direct uh, if they were having direct communication with whoever this Mr Lon is um who is he again let me see Linkon President of the Houston Professional Firefighters Association so that's his title. um yeah, I would uh I I'll say this I I'll say another thing.

So as the contractor, there have been times where I'm notifying everybody. So one example I can think of is we have a customer where we have a lady. that is our point of contact at this business and we let her know what's going on right? So if we have to order a part or we have to do this or we have to do that, uh, we're going to let her know. but the other thing we're going to do is by gosh if I'm there and I'm staring someone in the face that is there I'm gonna let them know what's going on too I don't know how good they all communicate with one another and if this, uh, company is, you know, only talking to their point of contact uh, they would probably do a lot of good by communicating with a few Folks at the fire department themselves.
So I don't know if they're dealing with, say you know if the city has some sort of maintenance department or who whoever they're dealing with but it would probably go a long way if they were to make a phone call to the fire you know the firehouse and say hey guys, you know I know it's been a few months. Let me tell you what the holdup is. Let me tell you that you guys are a big priority for us. Um, and you know this is what's going on that would probably go a long way.

In fact, they probably might not have even called a news or organization if you know they did that. You know communication goes a long way. you know? Um, lipster 09 Twitch TV says that's my area and it's huge. Nice.

So Houston in the house Shinobi says swamp cooler good When it doesn't rain, there's no skunk fires barbecue Etc and then you have to keep enough windows open and can't really use a thermostat. Interesting. I'm not going to pretend to understand how those things work. uh I mean I I understand the concept and the you know, the the water and all that jazz that you know.

but I um I I'm not gonna I don't even know that I would get very far. uh if I had one sitting in front of me that wasn't working I mean I I think I'm pretty mechanically inclined and I might be able to figure out most small problems but that that's um, that's interesting. Could you comment on the maintenance requirement Department User and professional of traditional versus Mini Splits and especially ducted Mini Splits thank you I would say great question ducted Min splits in my opinion, should be maintained no different than a conventional split or package a Residential Heating and Air system. and so I believe that those types of systems should be at least once a year maintained.

they should be cleaned, the coils should be cleaned. I think that the you know the drains should be treated uh, the electrical components should be inspected if nothing else and and so on now. I I I don't know about refrigerant levels u in all cases because if it's a mini split or an inverter type system, then you don't want to be connecting your gauges all the time. You know you don't.

Most of those systems don't hold that much refrigerant anyway, so they're going to let you know if there's a problem. But aside from that, you know, keeping those systems clean, cleaner, uh, having a professional uh, you know, maintain them once a year, not just kick the tires and check them over, but also actually cleaning the coils and making them as new as possible again. And the last thing I'll say is if there is a filter, you know, replacing that filter however often that it needs to be replaced and the reason I'm staying vague on that is I think there's something to be said for all. Not all filters are created equal, right? Some some if the return is closer to the floor, they might catch more dust, right? some of them.
If the uh, if the home itself is, you know, maybe they have pets that live there or someone's a smoker or whatever. Um, that all plays a role in all this. So you know if if you are changing your filter every 60 days and that filter looks like it's super jam-packed and dirty, you might need to be doing it every 30 days, you know? So Lipster 9 also says this summer was so hot Houston was awful I will agree with you I I was in Houston a few times this summer and uh my gosh, it is a sticky situation. literally.

uh for you guys on some days. So I hear you on that Ryan says the government moves slowly I'm not surprised. Yeah, it's interesting that that, um, that guy was, you know, only blaming the city there. So you know that I thought that might have told a little bit of a story.

There you know is is the city the problem or is the contractor the problem. Is the contractor the problem or is the distributor of the parts the problem. is the distributor the problem or is the manufacturer the problem you know or or any combination thereof, right? That that's just uh, that's interesting there. So anyway, uh uh yeah, if you got a heating and air question, feel free to drop that in the chat.

We're going to do our next Breakaway segment. Um, let's see I thought this was a an interesting uh invention. Some of you those of you that join us every week know that I I have a segment where we go over goofy inventions and uh, let's do that. Uh, we haven't done that in a couple weeks.

I Feel like so Let's uh, do tonight's goofy invention. tonight's goofy invention is I I Don't know if you guys know what I'm talking about when you see these 3D printers. You, you guys know what I'm talking about. Um, let's see 3D printer.

Uh, this kind of plays off of a goofy invention that we talked about a while back which was uh, plastic duct work? Um, you know we talked about. You know how metal does you? Especially galvanized? Uh, steel. metal will eventually corrode, it'll eventually rust and so on. Um, and then you know other types of duct work may break down and so on after you know over time.

Um, and so you know. So we talked about plast duct work and we talked about other materials and things like that. Um, now a lot of you pointed out there are you know Solutions similar to that out there, but I was kind of picturing this easy to work with. able to fabricate with type duct work and my next goofy invention would be 3D printers that, um, would print out the duct work for you.

Uh, kind of a goofy invention I know. But you know they have these 3D printers that can print all kinds of things these days. Um, they've got. you know.
I've seen 3D printers actually create literally Parts You know if if somebody can't get a particular part anymore, they'll they'll 3D print it. Uh, you know, and there's it's. actually pretty cool. A lot of the things that can be done with these 3D printers.

Here's a guy. uh, that made a gigantic chest piece with it, right? Uh, here's oh. here you go. So here's one that it's got the engine.

It looks like an engine. of some type. Um, now I Don't know if that's an actual combustion. you know it's if, especially if it's plastic.

but um, you know I Think it would be kind of cool if you were to go to a house that, um, you know you just lay out your duct work, punch it all into the printer, and then all of a sudden it prints all your duct work out and you just stick it in there. You just click it together, you strap it up, you insulate it, and you're done right and you don't have it. Gets back to the the metal that we were were talking about. Um, yeah, you know I Can't imagine what one of these 3D printers, especially one big enough to print duct work would cost.

But I do think it's kind of cool to think about the other thing. I In fact, here's a picture of it. The other thing that's interesting is how they're doing these 3D printed homes Where they're They go to these job sites and they'll They'll literally dig up dirt and uh, at least I if I remember correctly, that's what these this material is made of. and then I think they add something to it to to make it last.

and and then they've got this machine that almost looks kind of like a a like a a crane or if you've ever seen those if you if you ever. Google Boston Harbor how they've got those those big machines that will move the containers. you know it'll kind of come over and then grab it and pick it up and take it. and that's kind of what these machines will look like.

Um, when they're printing homes. Um, let's see if I can find a better picture for you guys. But anyway, the point is. uh I just thought it'd be kind of cool.

You know, goofy invention if you want to call it that. uh if there was 3D printed duct work out there, you know what do y'all think you know? share, share your thoughts in theuh chat I'd love to hear them. Um, let's get back to our chat here. Um Ryan says did you not see my question about that d product um did I skip over your question Ryan put put it in the chat again.

maybe I didn't see it Bob says City politicians are usually the problem. um yeah, no comment on that. Um, you know I think that. uh anyway, no comment on that.

Shinobi says pros and cons of normal Min split versus ducted. Uh, any thought, thoughts or preferences and why? Well, that's a good question. So um, let's talk about the reasons you would want to go with a duct, a non-ducted a ductless mini split. Uh, the first reason I could just think of right off the top of my head is there is a such thing as duct loss, right? It's it's a way that you know folks lose energy every day, especially if that duct work were to pass through a non-conditional area.
If it's say in an attic or a crawl space in a wall cavity a Chase of some type. Um, there is a such thing as duct loss and it's uh, can add to the how inefficient a system is and that goes for you know, conventional systems that goes for ducted Mini Splits Um I I think uh. Another thing um is if you had, say a mini split in each part of your home or each, say, even if you got crazy enough to have one in each room, you're going to have more Comfort right? Each room can be set at a particular temperature and so on. Um, and you could probably even argue if each of those indoor units has its own outdoor unit, that it's more efficient in that manner.

So not only is it more comfortable, but it's also more efficient because those systems can ramp down big time, right? Um, and you know I I Think that uh, many when you say normal Minit I'm assuming that you mean duck lless. Uh, there's different types of duckless: and all that, um I Think that there are pros and cons to all of those as far as what exactly do you want in that space. Um, but the last thing I'll say is uh, you know, why would you want a ducted traditional mini split and I think the the obvious answer to that is Cosmetics Uh, it's going to cost more to install. Um, you know you're GNA have to have more labor.

Somebody's got to, you know, install duct work now rather than just hang something on the wall. Um, and then say the units are probably going to be a little more pricey if you comparing Apples to Apples a 12K wall mount to a 12K ducted unit. Uh, the unit itself might cost a little more too. Um, so the last thing I'll just say is cosmetically.

if you don't want something hanging on your wall or even a floor Mount Um, you know a ducted mini split is going to be. you know you're just going to have your traditional vents like you're used to. So hopefully that answers that question. Good question.

SFL I'm just curious what that stands for. Is it just Southern Florida or is there is that your initials? um, if it is your initials, what is it, Is it Scott Frankie uh Lewis that's that's your name Scott Scott says what is the smallest ceiling cassette for split AC Um, some of the brands have the If If I if I'm understanding your question correctly because some people use the verbiage cassette and they're not talking about the same thing. But if if if we're talking about the same thing, there are some brands that make the One Direction cassettes that are small enough to fit between Joyce now and so not all the brands make that only a you know a few of them um do at this time. but there are um and and I'm talking about physically it looks like Ryan just said uh capacity wise 6K Um so they do make the the ones that you know just literally slide in between two joist and they're They're actually built more similar to um you know built more like a wall hung mini split but they're recessed right.
They're recessed up in the in the Attic or the ceiling and then you know you've got to figure out the drain and everything from there. Ryan says did you already talk about the flare products? how to how to how to they automatically adjust room temperature. Do they need zoning? Cool looking product? Uh yeah, let's take a moment there. Thanks for for reminding me! uh Ryan um our sponsor for this particular episode and an upcoming video is Flare and if you click the link that's in the chat um you can get 10% off of let's see if I got yeah.

So if you click this link right here you can get uh 10% off uh any of their products and so uh they do a couple things. So they've got this product called the puck and we're going to have a video coming up that goes into it more and all the things that they can do and all the problems that they solve. But Ultimately, if you just imagine a register that has dampers that can open and close based on the temperature that you have them set at Um I mean automatically that we we've talk we talk about all the times. How all the time how uh there are parts of your home that let's say you have a hot room that you know in the summertime it just does not get enough cool air.

Well you can install some of these flare smart vents in the house and push more cool layer to that part of your home without having to get crazy and install a bunch of duct work. Um this also fix a lot fixes a lot of zoning problems uh even. you know just the we've done videos where we talk about how heat rises. If you've got a twostory home and you don't want to spend thousands of dollars on zoning, you can actually set these units up to where you know.

Even though heat rises you can push more cool air to the upstairs in the summer and then in the winter P more warm air to the downstairs and so it's just a cool product. I I uh I've been chatting with them about all the different things that they do and that is the sponsor for our show here. If you can't tell and um uh you know I have to I think I have to disclose that they are a sponsor and that we do get a a small cut of uh, any purchases that you make from that link but you save 10% as well. So check that out.

Um, the last thing I'll just say is they're products also that the puck the wall mount Puck which I don't want to call it a thermostat because it's not really I guess technically a thermostat, but that puck can also communicate with mini splits. So if you have a a mini split that you want it to be Wi-Fi enabled. you want to be able to control it without the remote, Just control it with a thermostat. The puck can do that and so it's really cool.
Cool, interesting product. Check them out and uh, thank you to them for sponsoring this video. Ryan Says printed duct work would be cool, especially since it's said that you want as straight as lines as possible when running. Ducks You could make custom shapes that reduce heat loss.

I I Agree. Uh, you know the fabrication. the art of fabrication that a lot of guys have. I Mean there's I've got a guy that works with us that he can.

um, he can almost. You know it's almost an art. You know he can take duct work and you know, make all kinds of fittings and just make make it look beautiful. Well uh, even if you don't have that skill.

uh, you know, maybe a 3D printer could give you that same capability TJ says hello it's a cool Texas evening It's a cool Virginia evening as well. I Think it's going to get down in the 40s tonight, which is so crazy because it was up to 85 degrees here I believe it was yesterday. so pretty cool Scott SFL says he he is a she So SFL equals female. So let's let's go back to the drawing board.

SFL SFL stands for you guys help me out here um I'm goofy if you can't tell if you've never been on my show before SFL um we're gonna say s stands for Stephanie so I'm gonna call you Stephanie Highland says can you use a communicating heat pump in a double wide well Highland uh the response to that question is um, if you have additional, um, smaller High static duct work that we see in most, uh, most mobile homes, you have to install a system that's meant for high static and so, uh, they literally make mobile home furnaces meant for high static applications. So uh, if you have your duct work replaced and replaced properly with traditional duct work, then I think the answer to your question is yes. but if you don't, if you have the traditional smaller duct work High static then I would only install a mobile home furnace with a you know me I would also install a heat pump with that as as efficient of a heat pump as I could. But um, but hopefully that answers your question.

So Stephanie says her name is actually Shay Okay, Shay I probably won't remember that I'll probably still if you comment again next week. I'll probably call you SFL again. but uh, thanks for joining our show and thank you Uh for your kind words. Great show as always.

Shinobi says ducted versus normal mini. three bedrooms and two large common rooms. Living in kitchen and dining each head increases price and was wondering about air flow. Etc Yeah, here's the thing Shinobi I I would say here.

Here's here's the thing. So if if C is a is a concern right? So if if money is an object right, you know some people say if Money Was No Object what would the price be Let's come at this as if the M let's come at this as if money is an object, right It it matters. And so what My first thing I would say to you is why are you asking this question Because if money is an object and you are concerned about price and you want as efficient of a PO as efficient of a setup or system as possible POS for your price then I would argue. just do wall mount Mini Splits And so when folks don't do wal Mount Mini Splits it's there's a reason for that.
Maybe maybe it's application, but I would even say at times um that you know they're it's more Cosmetics they don't want something hanging on their wall so they're going to look at maybe a ducted mini split or a floor Mount mini split or a cassette of some type. but I will argue that there are times when it's not just cos Cosmetics maybe a floor Mount might make make a floor Mount mik might here I am on a live show and I can't even say the word might might uh perform better in a particular space for one reason or another one. Just one thing off top of my head I can think of is if I've got a knee wall, maybe a wall mount unit ain't necessarily the best thing to install there. You know you usually want that wall mount to be high and blow low.

If you you know, install a floor. Mount you're going to mount it low and blow high, right? The last thing I'll say about all that is sometimes you don't have a choice right? if you don't have somewhere. If let's say one example I can think of is houses that have the you know, the sun rooms and they got glass all around and you just simply don't have somewhere you can hang a floor Mount unit. uh then you have to look.

Other options you have to consider. You know, a ducted unit, a ceiling cassette or a floor Mount right? Gary says good evening late to the show Come on! Gary Come on man! family came before this show I'm really surprised to hear that Uh had to run my Halloween show for The Neighbors tonight that's awesome! Um, we took my daughter trick-or-treating tonight which is so much fun. my daughter's only two so so it's such a fun age and I had to rush back here to Uh to get to our our show. Gary If you get some time, go back and watch the beginning of the show I Go through how someone stole my ideas, they stole them uh G Uh, Craig says is there any concern? Is there any concern during commissioning of two new fit heat pump systems during cooler weather versus hotter summer conditions? So Craig there is something to be said for uh if you install a system um, in the winter, there is no way that if it's a single stage system to get that refrigerant perfect And and I'll argue with anybody on that.

Uh, you can't do a proper subcool measurement unless it's above 65 degrees outside and you can't in my opinion. always go by the factory charge and instructions. Uh, because just sometimes. simply this.

just not accurate. You know if if it's supposed to have seven pounds, eight ounces in there of refrigerant and the instructions say for each 10 feet of Lin set, you need to add 6 ounces of refrigerant or whatever times it's just not perfect, right? It's just not dead on. Um, but I would argue that you know with the fit and most inverter systems that you should be able to do that that you should be able to install the system and 90% of the time not a 100 but 90% of the time follow the instructions, go by whatever they say. if they say add refrigerant based on linet length and because it's an inverter system uh you know that that is you know should be fine, you know you should be good to go.
Josh Your show title had me concerned for sure. I will check out the beginning. Thanks Nice. Yeah! I Uh, just so y'all know, especially those of you that join us every week I'm going to be playing with um our show titles so instead of it just saying every week the same title hvat God show I'm going to be playing with the title just just trying to get views up.

that's all. Um so if I have a you know a week where I'm going to be doing a particular story uh that will probably be the title. uh tonight the the title was uh you know that that the fact that that company was copying my content um Larry just joined us happy Halloween happy Halloween to you Larry and everyone else um and um yeah I um I just thought it was crazy you know Larry if you didn't see the beginning of my live show, you should go watch it too. As a fellow YouTuber um somebody was somebody blatantly stole my my content Shinobi says fun, enjoy your kids while they're young.

Not only fun but they're very worthwhile investment. yeah I uh I yeah I'm I'm going to go very off topic from my the heating and air discussion and and for those of you that have any heating and air questions, feel free to drop those in the chat. but while we're waiting for another question to pop in um you know my daughter man she is just so awesome feel so blessed. um I know everybody says that but I told my wife I was like there's no way people love their kids as much as I love mine.

um because I see how they treat them you know I know that's horrible to say but I just I'm just I love her so much you know I feel so blessed. um I don't even know what I did to get her but I will um I would do it again. uh to get to get her again You know to get such an awesome awesome kid David says when will you post about the upgraded fit David are you the one that commented about this I believe either today or yesterday um I was telling John earlier in our show um I I don't have any new information on that I think you know Dyan Just rolled out the Goodman side discharge and the Am Mana S Series which is their um equivalent to the fit. It's not completely equivalent.

it's got different controls and such, but it's it's there. uh many? Okay, yes. I was nice I was talking about you David because uh, when John asked I was like John somebody else just asked me this question today. Um yeah so we're I don't have anything new.
um but I do think that you know they just rolled that stuff out and I do think that it's coming I and I think your question was are they and I think you just asked it again. Are they going to wait until the new refrigerants come out and I think the answer to that is no I think um, at least that's what I was told when I toured the factory in the summer. Um so I think that the uh, the newer fit with the better specs I don't know what they're going to call it I think it's going to be the E or whatever it is they're calling it. um, they've changed the name of it on me.

um I don't think it's going to be next the end of next year. I think it's going to be soon. um but I don't have anything new I don't no one has told me anything additional to that. um I will say this: I Was at their conference and spoke.

They actually invited me in to speak from stage little old chubby me from that grew up in a trailer park which was very humbling. um to speak at their conference and uh no one there said anything about it. They told me about some other new products coming um that I'm not allowed to talk about yet but um but they did not mention that um so I don't don't have anything new for you yet on that. What changes did they make it? Bring it into compliance.

Is it using the new refrigerant? Will another fit? Update: Come in 2024 using the new refrigerant Etc Yeah I don't have anything new other than what I said in that video. um I can tell you this back when that when I made the video when I did the factory tour they told me about it right? So they said we've got the you know this knew and they were calling it what they were calling it at the time I'm not allowed to keep saying it so I'm not going to say it but they were calling it what they were calling it and they said it's coming but they said first we're g to be coming out with Goodman's side discharge and we're gonna be coming out with the Amanda S Series well they did that. so now it's October and that's about. When they said it would be coming they said October um in fact those the am man S Series came out before October um and so I'm wanting to say back then they said November December uh for the the other the the newer, more better specs fit.

um but that's all I have I don't have anything new in addition to that Ryan says how does the flare control the airf flow That part confuses me I have a single zone home? how would it redirect air flow to my bedroom? Is it a powered vent that will force more air out of that vent? Good question Ryan I asked the same question too I thought I was picturing those units that have those booster fans and all that and uh, what Flair told me is rather than having fans that will fail and and also you know Lord knows what the airf flow would be if they started installing things like that. What these smart vents do is they would act like dampers on other parts of the house. So uh, if you have a house that you have one particular room, that's a problem, you would install the vents in other parts of the house. uh, pushing more air to that room if that makes sense and so I have not laid hands on it I hope to do so, but that's what I was told by them.
So I can't definitively say oh well, you know it. It checks the temperature there and it does this and yeah, I don't know about all that. Um I just know that you know that. that's the concept.

Daniel says can a Dyan heat pump be paired with a manufactured home electric furnace? No, it cannot. It's a communicating system and Dyan does not make a mobile home electric furnace. Um, so Daniel I Would look at uh, the the Bosch lineup if you want an inverter system. Um, it's not going to be quite the same level of comfort and so on as a communicating system, but you'll be able to pair it with an electric furnace.

Uh, I've done it multiple times and uh, if it's installed right, uh, you could. I had a lady, uh, she was saving 500. I'll say that again: $500 per month And you might say, well, Josh how much was her util utility bill? Well over $600 a month in the wintertime running on straight electric heat strips. Now, part of that was she kept her house pretty warm.

but we've installed that, uh, that inverter system with that mobile home furnace and the amount of savings within the first year, the additional cost of installing a heat pump, and it being an inverter. she made it back in the first year on the money she saved on her utility bills, and of course every year since then. Uh, she's been saving. you know, more and more and more.

So uh, it's just crazy David said I saw a Dyan investor presentation that said they plan to have three fit levels: popular mid and luxury David you are teaching me stuff um I uh I would love to. um I would love to. If you get are if you are getting behind closed doors that I'm not. uh, send that info my way pal.

Uh, what's the difference between the Goodman and the Dy and side discharge units? The main thing: I think there's some other things. uh, but the main thing is the techn the the controller. So Goodman does not have the Dy in one. It doesn't have the Dyan ecosystem it's got I Forget the verbiage but it's got a a a more basic controller.

I Would even argue a more friendlier user friendlier controller. For those customers that you know, the Dyan one might be a little too much, a little too complicated. Um, so maybe if you really want that capability, you really want the fit, you really want a unit that is great. It's side discharge.

it's quiet, it's uh, you know, communicating inverter and all the benefits of that. and it can fit in a lot of places. Literally the name fit, but it can fit in places that other units can't Um, but you want a different controller? Maybe the the new Goodman SD might be an option that you might consider when you never would before. Gary says okay, here is one for you Josh um I will tell you guys this show is running a little late and that that's okay as long as you.
want to stay, uh, keep asking questions, we'll run it a little late. Um, but I just want to let you guys know that we are. you know, um, running a little late and the other thing I'll say is if you're here with us and you're sticking around, um, do me a favor. if you know a good Heating and Air company as we wrap up our show tonight, you know a good one.

I Don't care where they're located, share them in the chat, share who they their name of the company and where they're located in the country, in the country and you're going to do two things. The first thing you're going to do is you're showing love to a company that you think is good, right? You're telling others this is a good company and the other thing you're doing is you might be doing one step further than that in that somebody might see this show and see that company name and use them because of your reference. um or referral, not reference referral. Um, so do that as we're wrap as I'm answering these questions.

make sure you, uh, throw in any good companies across the US who they are and where they're located Gary says here's one for you not sure if anyone has mentioned it wondering if there is a different refrigerant for automotive use I think I saw 134a in one of my older vehicles I'm not sure what the question is. uh I think I saw 134a um I could tell you that if you're asking what refrigerant they use I think you're correct. So I think 134a and then I think they used to years ago use R12 um and I there might be another one out there if maybe one of you guys in the chat here know better than I do I'm surprised. um I just don't work on cars a lot, you know? So I I just don't know the answer that off the top of my head I could look it up but I just don't know the top off the top of my head David says those three fit levels were specifically aimed at North America I I wonder that's in very interesting because I I think that if the fit is the future right? So if they're gon to have you know a budget friendly fit, a higher end fit and then a Mac Daddy fit that will compete with some of these other brands because there's other brands that have side discharge units but they're not as small as the fit and they're not as um, budget friendly as the fit.

So maybe the maybe you know Dyan's gonna have. but I will say this. No one has told me that. so you are teaching me something and you might be spilling tea that uh, other folks in here are not supposed to know.

So Dyan if you see this, any of you folks folks from Dyan I didn't say it David said it. you know so David's in trouble not Josh Ryan says okay you install these vents in different rooms plus the problem area. yeah I don't even know that you would install it in the problem area necessarily Ryan you might I know they have sensors on these pucks. Um so I don't know if you install the puck or some sort of sensor in there and the problem area, but um, but the vents would definitely go in the rooms that get the most air flow is how I understand it David says David I'm glad you're on our show pal.
I'm I'm getting all kinds of interesting I don't know if anybody else finds it interesting, but I'm getting all kinds of interesting stuff out of you regarding the commissioning. when the outside temp is not a deal, my installer got us up and goaling and come back later when it was warmer to get it perfect. Yeah, you can do a subcool measurement on a fit. Um I was just simply stating that I don't know that you have to.

Um so I think that's kudos to your installer for doing that. You know they wanted to make sure that you were good to go, so that's that's great. Great to hear. Have you seen the media packaged Window Heat pump? Um I have not.

Ryan but I think you or someone on here told me about how they are, how they've come out with the inverter type uh, window units I assume that's what you're talking about. So pretty cool. You know the future is here, right? Highland says would the Duane links work with a double w I that I don't know um I don't I I Was told by someone from Gree that the Gree Flex would not but I don't know about the links. Um so you know that's a question I would defer to your local contractor if you're installing a a mobile home furnace and and so on.

Shout out to Super cool HVAC in Charlotte North Carolina Ryan Showing you some love um and thank you for showing that or to for sharing that Ryan Um but yeah, shout out to those so any of you that are near Charlotte uh check those guys out. Ryan says they are good David says my Goodman Dyan question was aimed at seeing if there was a carrier Bryant Value proposition Interesting. interesting Holland says Schaer in Hillsboro Ohio so shout out to Schaer uh Schaer HVAC Schaefer Heating and air I don't I don't know uh what the what they call themselves but yeah, shout out to to those guys if you're anywhere near Hillsboro Check out Schaer. Uh, we're going to wrap up in just a moment guys.

so get those questions in if you have any more questions. uh Larry says I Just rewind this live and saw the beginning segment. yeah they totally copied you. That's just wrong.

Although I did notice they literally only have 35 views. Nobody likes them. um I uh no comment I no comment I'm not gonna let them come after me right? All I did was state facts you know so they can't They can't sue me for stating facts. um I can I just showed what they did and you know, take that with what you will.

But yeah, crazy David says 2024 Ford Lightning is a vapor injection heat pump as standard equipment. Interesting you that Automotive is uh coming along right? Okay, yes I wanted to know if 134a was still the popular Freon thanks I'll say good night to you and friends till next week. Good night Gary thanks for joining us David says the fit has the communicating inverter real Japanese Tech package that some the other side discharge systems uh David says my installer was and I probably might not pronounce this diad diad uh heating and air HVAC diad out of Baltimore so shout out to those guys Texas do2 good evening Have y'all sold? A lot of the Dyan air purifies I'm look looking to get a couple to help with my Mini Splits um have I sold many? No, but I have one and I love it. Um I I've done a video on it and I've got another video coming on that particular product so keep keep an eye out for that.
Ryan says I would like to see Dyan or others invest in more Vrv and Vrf and heat recovery technology at the residential level and in units like the fit. Etc I agree. Um I Do think there's something to be said for uh companies uh, you know manufacture what they think will sell and if they think that even if how no matter how cool a product would be um if they if they don't see any, if they if the If the product is going to be so expensive that you know they just won't get enough of a return then maybe they don't work on that. And I'll say.

The other thing with Dykin is it seems like they're always coming out with so many products every year that they probably have to, uh, you know, prioritize, They've got to decide. Okay, we're gonna come out with these five this year and maybe not necessarily come out with that, but maybe in the future kind of deal. You know? Shinobi says what's Vrv and Vrf? that's their variable refrigerant Dyan U Invented it back in the 80s and it's right now.
