There are all kinds of HVAC programs out there. The terms have become interchangeable and confusing. In this video, Joshua hopes to explain some of the programs and clear up confusion. HVAC warranties, HVAC insurance, home warranties, home insurance, HVAC leasing, and so on. The terms are never ending and getting more and more confusing.
Wouldn't it be nice if you could just buy a system with a great warranty and I had a great price from a great contractor? It's hard to know what you're getting anymore. Hopefully this helps!

Hey guys welcome back to the channel. My goal in this video is to clear up some of the confusion. We've done some other videos on homeowners, insurance and protection for your heating and air system, maybe times when your insurance company might step in and even cover that damage and buy you a whole new heating and air system at no charge to you. But one thing that i found is: there's all kinds of verbage thrown around hvac insurance, hvac, warranties, home insurance, home warranties.

All these different things and a lot of folks will use those terms interchangeably. My goal in this video is to hopefully clear up some of that confusion, but before we go any further, if you've caught this video take a moment, please click that like and that subscribe button. Thank you, okay, guys now, let's dig into this uh. As i said, i've done several other videos when it pertains to homeowners, insurance and some of the coverage when it affects your heating and air system.

So when you get done with this video check out that playlist, i'm going to put them all on a single playlist that you can check them all out and maybe hopefully it will help you out. If you are wondering what kind of coverage you have or whether or not a certain type of damage would be covered, but let's dive into this and let's first start out with the easy one at least the one. In my mind, that seems the easiest, and that is parts warranties that are typically provided by the manufacturer. So if you buy a new heating and air system, they are going to come with some sort of warranty coverage and if there were some sort of parts breakdown with that system, so let's say a specific part has just simply failed not due to poor maintenance, not Due to damage from some other outside source, but ultimately the part just failed things break, then the manufacturer is going to say, hey that part is covered and we're going to give you that part.

Let me first say before we go any further with that, and that is just realize in a lot of cases, the manufacturers themselves are only on the hook for that part, unless they have some sort of extended warranty. So what i mean by that is, if you have a fan motor that has gone bad, but your labor warranty has run out, then the hvac contractor might be able to get that part for you at no charge right from the manufacturer. Being that it's under warranty. But then they may still charge you labor to install that part, and another thing is most hvac manufacturer warranties: don't cover the refrigerant either.

So, for example, if say a coil had failed and to replace that coil, the contractor had to remove the old coil they had to reclaim refrigerant and they installed the new coil all the materials to install that new coil, the brazing materials, nitrogen, the labor. All that stuff and then once that new coil's in there, the refrigerant now put back in that system just realize most of that stuff outside of the coil itself, is not going to be covered. Now some manufacturers have gone a little bit further than that. Some of them are offering some sort of labor warranties.
So if a part fails within a certain amount of time, they're going to pay that contractor to install that part and of course a lot of them offer extended labor warranties that we're going to talk about in just a second. But they also have warranties that have now kicked in where they're going way past the parts warranty where they're saying you know some brands will say. Well, we have a unit replacement warranty. So if the system has a major failure, instead of just giving you that part, we're going to give you a whole new unit there or some of them are going so far as saying you know we're extending the life of our parts, warranties and we're going to Say that you know instead of 10 years, we might do 12., or i know of at least two brands that they say.

If your compressor fails, then we're going to give you a lifetime warranty on that we're going to replace that compressor or that unit for the life of that system. As long as you're doing your part you're taking care of your system and having it maintained and all that good stuff and then finally, it's pretty industry standard. Most brands sell furnaces today that have lifetime warranties on the heat exchangers. So it's a little above and beyond your typical parts, warranty so that would be hvac parts warranties.

Now, let's move to hvac labor warranties or what we a lot of times, we'll call extended warranties. This can sometimes be through the manufacturer themselves, so the contractor will purchase extended coverage from the manufacturer, and so, if you installed brand x and then you purchase that extended warranty well now, you've now got the labor covered by the manufacturer as well. A lot of manufacturers do that some of them, i know, are doing that, but they're doing it partnered with a third party, so some sort of firm or financing type corporation they're able to provide that extended, labor, warranty and then there's also third party companies entirely. So i did a whole video on this companies like jb, associates and trinity, and i think aig is still in that game as well.

Where, basically they're saying i don't care what brand you installed, you can purchase one of our extended warranties and get labor or sometimes even refrigerant, covered for a certain amount of time, but i'll still say even with labor warranties just realize there are still limitations. So, for example, just because you have a labor warranty, you've bought this extended, warranty doesn't mean it just covers any and all things it usually only covers again part failures that were not caused by outside sources or caused by wear and tear due to poor maintenance. So again, if you had say a fan motor that failed, then they're going to take care of the labor side when the manufacturer might be taking care of the part itself, so that would be hvac parts and labor warranties. So if you hear someone using that verbiage, that is typically all they're talking about now, let's talk about home warranties because they're all totally different animal.
I did a video years ago on some of the dealings that i've had with home warranty companies and some of the warnings that i had for homeowners when it comes to the companies themselves and realtors that are selling them. But i did that trying to warn folks, but i did it from my point of view from a heating and air technician's point of view. Ultimately, what a home warranty is is, if you are buying a new house or if you just have a house that you're already living in, and you want to have some sort of coverage to that house. A lot of these companies will charge you a certain amount of money and certain items in your house, including your heating and air system, are covered in some way and the whole reason i did that video i was just alluding to is a lot of times.

It's a false sense of security, because a lot of homeowners are in for a rude awakening thinking. Well, i've just got this coverage, it doesn't matter if my system breaks down. In fact, i hope it kind of does then i'll get a new system at no charge and then they find out that you know - maybe that's not the case. Next, let's talk about home insurance, so we're not talking about home, warranties or home warranty companies anymore.

Now we're talking about home insurance or homeowners insurance. That's this whole series. If you've caught this video, we're doing several videos on homeowners insurance and when they might cover your heating and air system, things that they'll cover and won't cover, but ultimately most homeowners, especially if you have a loan on your home. The company that you have your mortgage through is going to require you to have some sort of homeowners insurance anyway.

Just so, if something were to happen to the house, it's got some sort of coverage right, and so these are what you're used to. This is nothing crazy or out of the ordinary. Most homeowners have some sort of homeowner's insurance, or at least they should so, if you know, if you don't, you probably should, and that is if something were to happen. If a tree fell on the house, if lightning struck the house, if the house burnt down a lot of this stuff would be covered by your homeowners insurance and it's usually through a lot of these companies that you've heard of you know you see a a tv, Commercial and they say call us today for a quote on your homeowners insurance.

That's what they're talking about so again. I've done other videos - i'm not gon na, go through all the ins and outs on homeowners insurance, but just realize that it does cover your heating and air system against certain things. If certain events were to happen and it met certain criteria based on the wording and your homeowners insurance policy, then your homeowners insurance company may cover that heating and air system. So that's the big four.
You know they a lot of folks like to throw around the verbiage and use them interchangeably. But if you've stuck around this long, then let me just go ahead and throw out a couple more because there's a lot of new things out there things that when i started out in this trade they were not a thing, and that is some heating and air Companies have come out with creative ways to market their heating and air systems to sell heating and air systems, and there are a lot of times offering these products or coverages in addition to the system itself, we're going to run through these pretty quickly. I do know every state is different, some of the things we're going to talk about here, they're not offered by every heating and air company and in some states in some cases, these things might not even be allowed to be offered. They might be illegal in your state.

The first one is hvac leasing. There's a company in one of the big cities near us that offers this. I'm not going to pretend to know all the ins and outs. What would happen if the homeowner didn't pay their bill or or anything like that, because i think that varies.

But the idea is you purchase this heating and air system and you actually don't own it you're, leasing it and usually they're selling it for a lower amount or they're packaging it in a way, so you think you're paying a lower amount. Reminds me of cars. Sort of like when you go to a car dealership and you get a lease on that car and you're, making monthly payments on it, but you don't actually own the car. When you get to the end of your lease agreement, you no longer own that car.

It won't be sitting in your driveway anymore, unless you do end up purchasing it another one that i'll throw out there is hvac, renting uh. This is something i've seen when dealing with folks with new hvac guide. I've had companies talk about how you can rent a heating and air system, and again it might vary company to company on what exactly that means. But ultimately, what it sounds like to me is again you're going to be spending money in some way, shape or form, and you won't actually own the system.

Another thing that i'm seeing is in contrast to what we were talking about a minute ago with these companies that offer hvac extended, warranties or labor warranties. Another thing we're starting to see is hvac insurance. I think in some cases it's still companies that do like home warranties. You know we're talking about the same exact type people and now they're, using different language and they're, saying well now we're going to give you insurance on your hvac system and, as i understand it, a lot of those companies operate.

Just like you know, an extended warranty on your car does so like if you go and buy a new chevrolet car and then that warranty runs out, there's companies that will give you extended warranties. Those are the people that are always telemarketing me. You know my phone rings they're like hey. Did you know that your warranty is about to run out on your car uh? So i don't know if it's quite as skeezy as all that, because no one in my area even does these things, but i will say that just like anything else, just make sure that you know you're getting everything in writing.
Make sure that you know you check. Reviews with a lot of these companies, you know, if they're, giving you some sort of insurance on your heating and air system, let's find out if they're actually gon na, you know take care of you and read some of their reviews. Chances are you know if it doesn't feel right, then you know possibly it could be like a timeshare or a car warranty where you're gon na regret it in the end and then finally uh. I know of one particular company that i have dealt with a little bit out in the midwest and they offer what they it's.

Basically a lifetime warranty on the heating and air system, there's some ins and outs to that. I think you have to be a part of their maintenance club and making monthly payments and so on, but ultimately they're offering a lifetime warranty on the heating and air system when you purchase it from them and again. I know different companies might offer that in different ways. You know what's covered, what's not and what kind of gets them out of it if you miss a payment, for example, when they won't cover that system anymore, for you know the lifetime of the system anyway, i hope that helps.

I know i've hit you with a lot of information there, but my goal is that you know if you are buying a heating and air system and your company is throwing some of these different verbiages and they're, throwing things out there to you that you know, you Understand what they're saying all that said thanks for watching hit that subscribe button, we'll see you next time you.
