I recently did a video showing how a company had misdiagnosed an HVAC system for a friend of mine. In that video, I recorded a phone call between the service manager and technician and found out that they did not put the HVAC system in charging mode while diagnosing it. Inverter HVAC systems have to be in charging mode to diagnose the refrigerant levels properly. This video is a follow-up to that showing the proper diagnosis and finding that the system was low on refrigerant charge the whole time!
Is this proof that you need to get second opinions for large repairs? It may be!

Hey guys welcome back to the channel, and i want to do a follow-up video. I posted a video a couple days ago about a friend of mine had had a heating and air company come out to their house. It's one of my friends from back home, so they live several hours for me, otherwise they probably would have called me. But anyway he called me because his wife was home and they had a heating and air company come out and they basically misdiagnosed the system.

And so i posted that video right here so check that out if you haven't seen it, but i had a few folks comment and ask about you know: what did the company find? How do i know that they misdiagnosed it until they actually do find out? What's wrong with it and so on, and so i wanted to do this follow-up video uh, the company had a more senior tech out today. That was their verbiage, not mine, and he found the problem which of course i can sit here and say it now that it's what i thought it was all along, but my friend can tell you that i told him originally that it sounded like that. It could be low on refrigerant that company actually sent him a video, i'm actually going to show a little clip of that right here and they sent that clip to him so that my friend could send that to me after i had a conversation with them, showing Them that you know my friend does have someone in the loop that knows what they're doing so. Ultimately, if you haven't seen that video from the other day check that out, i actually recorded a phone call with the company uh.

It was kind of goofy, because the uh service manager, uh, said yeah. You know, we know what we're doing we, we definitely put them in charging mode and the moment it just kind of worked out, perfect timing. I was able to three-way the technician in. He would have been returning my call, i was able to ask the technician that was actually there did you put it in charging mode and of course he did it, and so i think the moral of the story here is, if you're a homeowner and you do Catch this video again, as i said in the other video, is just know that it's okay to get a second opinion that you know sometimes we're talking about pretty expensive repairs.

I have no problems with my customers getting a second opinion. If i'm confident that i diagnose that system correctly, i shouldn't have a problem right and nobody's perfect. You know that's the thing. I'm not sitting here saying that i'm so great because i diagnosed the system correctly and this junior technician, who probably only has a year or two of experience, didn't diagnose it correctly.

That's not me tooting, my own horn. I should be better at my job than he is. If i wasn't, then something would be wrong, but ultimately his misdiagnosis, his mistake, telling my friend and well my friend's wife, telling her that the reversing valve was bad was simply incorrect and i believe they quoted just under two grand to do the work and that's not The point here, i'm not beating anyone up over their prices companies charge what they charge. They might have overhead that i don't have, or maybe they live in a market where they have to pay a little higher salaries.
I don't know the point. Is it's a pretty expensive repair that they did not need and here's the thing anyone that you know knows what they're doing would know that if that system was low on refrigerant, they would have replaced that reversing valve okay. They would have replaced the reversing valve that did not need replacing, they would have then pulled the vacuum. Recharged, the system and the system would have worked.

The system was low on charge, they would have put the new reversing valve in and then the system would have worked it would have had. It would have appeared to someone that doesn't know anything that they made the correct assumption that they diagnosed it correctly. Because then, the system would work for at least a little bit of time. You know the system would continue to leak refrigerant, obviously, but how long who knows so again, if you catch this video, it's okay to get a second opinion, even if you have to pay for it in some cases it might not be a bad idea to get That second opinion, especially if you're not getting the warm fuzzies.

You know my friend was saying that his wife said that the junior technician was outside. He was on his phone with his boss. He seemed kind of like you know like he was learning, because of that. It's the homeowner in the end that has to pay for that in a lot of cases so anyway, i hope that helps if i'm able to help you save some money, because you caught this video, that's great.
