Do you want to know how to never have algae in your pool again? This is my most popular. Pool Hack Okay, so you've probably seen a viral pool cleaning hack like this: You cut a piece of copper pipe, you stick it inside your skimmer, and it stops algae. but does it actually work? Technically, copper does kill algae. products like Algicides and mineral sanitizers use copper for the same reason to prevent algae growth, but the copper in those products is specifically formulated for pools.

Copper pipes, on the other hand, corrode and oxidize quickly, and that can cause terrible rust stains in your pool. So if the copper levels get really high, you can also turn your hair and your nails green. So stick the products like Algicides and mineral sticks in set. What do you think? Let us know in the comments if you've tried a hack like this.

The water would have to be in a round bottom flask for instance, no movement. It would also take awhile to work.
Moving water over the copper wouldn't do anything.
