Do you need to shock your hot tub? Yes! And here are four reasons why. Number one: it reactivates your sanitizer. coin or bromine in your water combines with contaminants and kills them. Adding shock will break them up, making more free chlorine or bromine to actively sanitize your water.

Number two: it breaks down contaminants and clears cloudy water. Shocking your hot tub removes body oils, dead skin cells and cosmetics. And as the shock frees up the sanitizer to kill contaminants, it helps clear cloudiness. Number three: it removes that chlorine smell.

When chlorine combines with contamin, it creates chloramines and that's what causes that chlorine smell on your hot tub. The shock will break it up and remove the smell. And finally, number four: it regenerates bromine by oxidizing combined bromine. New bromine forms and your bromine levels will rise.
