Gas furnaces are becoming the target for politicians passing laws meant to make the air safer to breathe in certain states. California has become the first state to take the step of banning furnaces entirely. This comes after the Biden administration has taken steps to pass a law to ban low-efficiency furnaces. Furnaces may become a thing of the past in the near future. All while, power grids are being strained during peak hours causing come to lose power or have brownout issues.

Kalifornia politicians think that they can control the climate. Bad things happen when leftist policies take effect.

The person youโ€™re quoting who is against the ban is throwing out a ton of misleading or false information. Peaking gas turbine plants are indeed not very efficient, but they only run on a few days per year when demand is especially high. Mostly itโ€™s more efficient combined cycle gas and solar. Letโ€™s also remember here that a heat pump triples your energy. So even in the case of the peaking plant, your net energy efficiency is still around 90% (30% x 3 COP). On the vast majority of days, your heating efficiency with electricity from gas is 180% efficient, or likely even better if using renewable energy. Heat strips donโ€™t matter because it never gets cold enough where most people live in CA to need them.

I am running a high efficiency pellet stove and plan on taking advantage of the 30% rebait that is good up-to 2032 for a new one. My backup is natural gas and they just replaced the gas lines in my area. I don't think it will go away anytime soon. If people haven't figured out how to recycle, how are they going to adapt to new concepts like solar, EV's and biomass fuels. They are too different to use and many people will just pay more money.
The cost of energy is so high you really don't have a choice even if you don't have mandates on what to use. You will become energy poor. A good example is updating my chest freezer to the newer ones that use the new refrigerant. My new refrigerator saved me over $10 a month over my old one and the new chest freezer will save the same amount of money! I heat the house for $500 and the electric bill is between $40-50 a month! Solar is planned to go in 2025. If you're not energy efficient you're just throwing your money away!

It was a unanimous vote because California is a one party state, just like China, Cuba . Please do not vote for Gavin Newsom when he runs for President next election. He will be the Democrat on the ticket, he must not win. Do not vote for any Democrat ( period end of story) "Gavin's line".

  17. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Bob says:

Yes, saving the planet has to be mandated or else it won't get done. We live in a profit system so people are encouraged to do what's cheap, not what's in the best interest of everybody. Imagine the calamity of our ancestors, living 300 years in the future, who are no longer able to grow crops. That's the direction we're heading. Eliminating the use of fossil fuels is a good thing although yes it will be painful.

  20. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Garth Clark says:

More Bull from the Government. CARB is political. They base everything on hype and little on common sense. Most of all, they make everything more expensive for the public. Back in the 1970's AQMD, CARB, EPA all were pushing natural gas, CNG for automobiles because it was "clean burning" a good for the ecology. You are right, the state (democrats) pushed natural gas but suddenly now its bad. The only bad things in society are big Government and their overly staffed offices.
Guess what? In California the temps are ususally very high in summer and the winter temps are usually 30 to 35 degress which means heat pumps are not going to be as efficient as an electric A/C and natural gas heating. So, the public will suffer in winter as they will run heat pumps in winter and they will not be as efficient which means the power used in winter will exceed the power used in summer using conventional A/C. People will be paying up the rear for heating because power in CA is 36 cents a kWh while gas, more efficient in heating, is about $1 per therm. Sources suggest that gas heating is 3 times more efficient than electric in doing the same job so those who think a heat pump is the way to go will find out that is not true. Plus, there will be those who have heating only and will need to replace their central heating system. The new law will require them to install a heat pump which is no different than central heating and A/C. Do they make heat pumps that only heat? I don't beieve they do nor would so that will not go well as folks will not only be forced to buy expensive equipment to heat and cool when they didn't have that originally but the power bills will absolutely run them down into poverty to keep warm as before. Just think, some homes are older and have a limited service eletric panel and their gas heater is ready for replacement. CA will require themt to use an electric replacement but there's no electric circuit in their attic, just gas and 115v. So, to install that heat pump, they will need a main electric panel upgrade ($3,500) and a circuit run to the attic 240v ($500) then the heat pump install ($12,000+) and the gas pipes capped off. Once that's done, their winter heating bill will go from $120 gas to a good $300 or so in electric and the colder its gets the more that heat pump will run unless they pay for the heat strips that will make it even more expensive by double.

    Electric can't really do tankless/on demand…

  22. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars ACTech Chris says:

Iโ€™m a AC contractor in California. Unfortunately that seems to be driven by politics and money. We have had to install low emissions furnaces for quite some time here and now have to install ultra low emissions now. Theyโ€™re trying to โ€œhelpโ€ the low income/disadvantage communities yet the cost of electricity to heat the home may be impossible for some families. Service area Nepean??

  25. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Brian Hopkins says:

yeah that's gong to work awesome where it's really cold (like ummmmmmm in northern california mountains) or when teh power goes out for days and days. (yes i realize your gas furnace doesn't run without electricity, but you can power that off a small generator, but cant' do that with an electric heat pump without a REALLY BIG generator)

also it's not like Kali can keep ti's electric grid up now, much less with more demand on it.

  26. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Rabo Karabekian says:

As with nearly all Youtube, there is no assessment of actual verifiable data in these comments.
It's easy to find the recent studies of natural gas pollution, most strikingly inside a home, most of which have terrible fresh air exchange.

Democracy is a popularity contest, not a knowledge and comprehension assessment.
    Money o'er e'rythin' /follow the money.

What is totally ignored here are the unique California smog entrapment conditions, concentrating air pollution.

"They" don't need to "control" you, "they already do control nearly everyone.
Example: I saw a vehicle last year with a misspelled, ungrammatical sign saying that people wearing masks stole his rights.
Here are things he likely has had to get: birth certificate, social security, childhood education, tax filing, workman's compensation, car title, car license, driver's license. He might also need mortgage approval, house insurance, hunting license, boat license, fishing license, building permits, etc.
Yep: land of the free if you can afford it. Are you in Ottawa ?

  35. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars JC says:

I hope that solar becomes more efficient and a heck of a lot cheaper. Here in Colorado they have goals as well, which I understand and yet I don't know how most people will be able to live.

  36. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Scruples says:

What these governments have to realize is they are not going to make these decisions on there own with there corporate buddies. They are going to have to go through the people when making there decisions. They are not authoritarians dictating to the people. They were elected by the people to work for the people. That a side California is a unique place for natural gas. We will just leave it at that. The rest of the country totally different situation.
