After speaking to someone recently about ductless mini splits, they made the comment that they were unaware that there were more options for mini splits than the usual wall mount style. In this video, Joshua Griffin goes through many of the options homeowners have today when considering ductless mini splits.

Hey guys in this video we're going to talk about how many splits are no longer just the wall hung mini split that you're used to ductless mini split that we're so accustomed to thinking of, especially here in the u.s. I can't speak for other countries because we are behind the ball and some of this stuff, but a lot of folks when they hear ductless or they hear mini split. They automatically go right towards one of those wall hung mini splits, and today there are more than just a few options when we're talking about mini splits. What are some of those options? Well, the first one is, instead of just up high wall, hung mini splits.

Now, if you don't want something hanging on your wall for one reason or another, now they make floor mount models that will mount towards the floor. They are, in my opinion, a little more cosmetically pleasing they almost kind of remind me. You know years ago we used to have you know, radiators uh. You know i say years ago: there are still houses today that have them, but it was more of a thing in the old days where you would have radiators and instead of those old cast iron ones that have the little chambers they started coming out with ones That were a little more cosmetically pleasing they kind of had a a metal shell and they were a little more cosmetically pleasing, and so that's what these floor mount models remind me of condasorta would be those radiators that came along after the fact with that shell on Them another one would be uh.

Speaking of the wall mounts, there are systems that are coming out, that they're still wall mount, but they're a little more cosmetically pleasing some of them are kind of cool. You know i know: daikin has their mirror where the whole front will move. When you turn the system on and it's just a kind of a cooler look, you can get them in different colors and i know mitsubishi has some models as well that you can get in other colors, but maybe the most interesting wall mount mini split on the Market is lg's art, cool gallery, cool pun intended, but this unit looks like a picture frame hanging on your wall, but it's actually a wall hung mini split mitsubishi, they've, taken the wall mount models, but then you can get a ceiling. Recessed model that'll still go between joists, but the guts of it remind me of a wall, mount mini split, so it's sort of got this recessed look surface mount on the ceiling and it's about the size of a wall, mount mini, split speaking of ceilings.

There are also ceiling cassettes, so those are typically a little larger when they first started coming out. They were rather large uh, you know all the brands, you know we were talking about. You know four foot square ceiling cassettes, they were blowing in different directions and so on. But now you can also get you know, ones that will even fit between you know two foot ceiling, tiles and a drop ceiling and then, finally, speaking of ceilings, a couple of the brands have these ceiling mount units that will shoot higher, pressured air across larger spaces.
I've seen them in commercial kitchens things like that, where they'll blow air across that space a little more aggressively and they mount on the ceiling as well. Next, when we're talking about mini splits, they have what we call pancake air handlers. That's what i call them. I know that uh, you know mitsubishi has their suvs and seds and all those and then of course uh dyken - has their fdmqs, but basically they're these smaller air handlers they're, you know not as tall and then they're.

You know why they look like a pancake. That's why i call them pancake air handlers, and some of them can still operate with conventional ductwork. So you're, not talking about you, know like a space pack or unico system with the small ducks with high velocity. These pancake air handlers are still being able to operate with traditional ductwork and then finally mini splits.

Today, we're seeing a lot of what we would call side discharge outdoor units where the fan blows out the front instead of the top like the old trash, can style unitary systems and a lot of these mini split type systems are being able to be paired with What we would call traditional air handlers or even furnaces, you know when you take the dyke and vrv life, where they can actually be have the same outdoor unit paired with a traditional air handler, a wall hung mini split and even a gas furnace now with coil. Anyway, guys, i hope that helps the person telling me the other day. Uh, i didn't know you know, i thought if you said mini split, that the wall hung mini slits were all they made now. You know there are all kinds of options and i bet uh in the very near future.

There will be even more anyway thanks for watching hit that subscribe button. We'll see you next time, you.

When do you think they will make an AC unit that can be easily installed and repaired by a homeowner? Like I can just swap out parts easy like a computer and charge the Freon like the ones in a car. stuff like that. Seems they make the systems to be way more complicated than they need to be.
