In this video, Joshua Griffin responds to one of the recent comments where Garth shares how some HVAC techs like to steal parts out of the system after condemning the system. Joshua goes over some scenarios where furnaces and other appliances may be condemned. However, he is concerned about anyone stealing anything out of the system. Stealing is stealing and Josh goes over that in this video.

If you add a heating and air technician condemn your heating and air system, want to do this video because one of our viewers that comments on a lot of our videos Garth Thank you for watching our videos and always commenting. He made a comment on one of our videos the other day and he said hey, what about these guys that they condemn these systems and they then steal parts off the system so that way it's no longer operable and I actually worked with a guy years ago that would do things like that that if a heat exchanger was compromised and he thought it was a big safety issue for them to run that system, he would remove certain things from that system so that they could not go behind him and just simply flip the switch on. Now the difference is I didn't see this guy actually steal parts from the system. He would just remove certain wires so that way it couldn't just easily be turned back on after he had condemned that system.

Now you may say, well Josh someone's condemned to my system. What's going on? You know what's the big deal and what's the overall reason someone would condemn a system and usually it's got to do with safety issues. I Remember years ago seeing where the city would come in and red tag certain appliances and it was almost their way of saying do Not run this system until certain things are taken care of. It's a huge safety issue and they would shut the system down and red tag it.

And so a lot of heating and air technicians where I see it the most is if there is a problem like a cracked heat exchanger for example or some other reason that carbon monoxide or some other safety related problem could be going in the home or something like that, then they will condemn condemn a system. The thing about that though is if the heat exchanger is something you can still purchase, then the system itself may be saved, right? It's not necessarily condemned. it's one of those deals where something needs to be taken care of and that's goes back to the guy I used to work with years ago. He looked at it like I'm not stealing something I'm not disabling the system to never work again.

and they're going to buy a new system because I've condemned it. No, he would condemn the system and disable it. and then if they were to go with the path of repairing instead of replacing Because my idea is if you're going to replace, that's still a way of repairing it, right? If you've got a cracked heat exchanger, and instead of just replacing the heat exchanger, you replace the entire furnace, that's still kind of a repair, you've repaired it. It's just you've gone new on everything, right? as far as the furnace goes.

The thing is, if you have a technician that has condemned a system but he's also stolen Parts out of it to make it to where you simply can't use that system to me stealing a stealing. if they stole something out of it and they've now taken it from you, they've stolen it regardless of the reason that's still stealing. That's all. YouTube Video where a guy actually stole the disconnect block out of a disconnect because the customer would not pay him and so he ended up getting paid and he put the disconnect back in there and the system was able to work right now whether you think that's right or wrong.
If the guy wasn't getting paid, if he's got a contract in place, maybe that's the way he looked at it. Hey, you're voiding the contract I'm going to avoid the con. You know, until you pay me. I'm now going to take something from that system so you cannot use it right, right or wrong.

That's not the point of this video, but the point is, aside from something like that like a a breach and contract when you have a technician or a person come in that has said hey, I'm condemning this system for one reason or another and now because of that, I'm going to steal Parts out of it. So you cannot use that system until you do whatever, replace the system or whatever. To me that is wrong to me that is. It sounds a little scammy.

It sounds like they have said hey I know better than anyone else I'm condemning this system and because of that I'm now stealing that and so that's feels scammy to me. If nothing else, they've now stolen something that doesn't belong to them out of that system and kept it. And so my idea is if they were to instead condemn the system, disable it to where they cannot be just easily turned on until a repair is made, but still leaving in a manner without stealing stuff out of it so that it can be repaired right. A heat exchanger can be replaced right, and I know every situation is different, but ultimately I can't see many situations at all where I would steal something out of that system and just keep it that is stealing and regardless of the reason I feel like that's wrong, You may feel differently I'd love to hear your thoughts on this if you watch this video.

Yes, I have seen HVAC videos where the next tech comes in for a second or third opinion, there are parts missing vs. the gas valve turned off and tagged or the electrical disconnected and tagged by the tech. Those creeps who go into a customers home and then claim the system shouldn't be used for "Safety" or "Hazard" reasons but rob parts from them are thieves. I highly doubt they are trained to do that vs. tag the system and disconnect them from gas or power. It makes much sense for HVAC to leave some evidence that they were there and a system was unsafe or other and shouldn't be used but in no way to take parts ! Not all parts are available plus, those are the property of the homeowner ! It's crazy to think that professionals would consider doing that and risking a customer taking the matter up legally.

In another case where a gas meter was pulled away either from a malfunction or non-payment, the tenant or owner bypassed the meter with hoses used in automotive radiators and clamps. However this situation was lethal and several members of that family died! This I read in the news.

Joshua I remember a customer who had a cracked Heat Exchanger and called another company and the "repairman" was using a torch to fix that heat exchanger. I mentioned to him and the home owner that this was an unsafe repair and I called the gas
company and notified them of the problem; they came right away and red-tagged the unit and pulled the gas meter away.-
