Ah, it's time to chill out and get ready for a mediocre Q A live stream. If you're old enough, grab yourself your favorite adult beverage and if you're not, stick with apple juice, put your feet up and relax. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the chat. and now let's cue up the intro music.

Thank you thank you Foreign thank you videos Thank you Hey everybody Welcome To the Hvacr videos live stream. Hopefully you guys are all doing well this evening this afternoon. Well, it's kind of like late afternoon for me. It's evening for a lot of you I'm sure.

Um, we're streaming on all different social media platforms. Keep in mind that a good majority I know the people that come in here regularly. They hear me say this all the time, but we have a lot of new people watching right now. So I want to address this? Um, I Go live a lot and my main platform is YouTube I'm streaming on Tick Tock Facebook LinkedIn All over the place, right? Um, all those platforms are fine, but the the majority of the chat happens in YouTube So if you're interested, find the HVAC videos live stream or YouTube channel on YouTube You know you guys can figure it out right? Obviously you're watching this.

So um, my name is Chris I'm an Hvacr service technician here in Southern California I Started making videos a few years ago. That's kind of a training aid for my employees and um, it just turned into this thing, right? So obviously on all social media platforms it's under Hvacr videos and I just like to Showcase What? I do The whole idea of my YouTube channel was simply to help my employees and then you know a friend convinced me to hit public and here we are Now it's been five or six years I think uh, someone can do the math November of 2017 so are we coming on five years right now? Or six? I don't know Anyways, um but uh yeah. So if you guys have questions or things that you want me to cover, do me a favor and put your questions in caps lock. It really helps me to be able to see what's going on.

Okay, uh, if you guys have questions that I don't get to or something that you just want to email me about, shoot me an email over at Hvacrvideos.gmail.com I'll try to get back with you again I apologize if I don't I'm getting a lot of different stuff, but that's why I do these live streams now is to try to consolidate the questions um and make it a little bit easier because I get a lot of repetitive questions especially after certain videos and then Boom! you get a bunch of comments and questions and it's like hey, you know, um it I just try to consolidate them all on here. So um, a couple things I want to talk about as usual, had a few videos, lots of short form content going out in the last week and of course I'm sure a good amount of you guys especially on Tick Tock are here because of the short form content if you guys are watching from Tick Tock uh you know, same thing on Instagram reels or Facebook reels or whatever you want to say. um, you know that's 60 second content I don't get to show everything. they're usually a consolidation like a really quick clip from one of my videos.
so if something seems like I skipped a step, there's a possibility I do make mistakes but majority of the time I complete everything properly if you watch the whole video or to the best of my ability. Okay, so um yeah, that's definitely some stuff I want to talk about is the short form content Because you know, really, as creators, we're kind of being pushed towards the short form content and we're trying to figure out how to make it work. The short form content for the most part is there to hopefully grab people's attention and bring them over to the main channel. So we put it out there.

and it's also cool just every once in a while because I like watching short form content too and it's nice to be able to um to show the full stuff though over on the main Channel on YouTube Okay, um but again, hello to everybody. There's lots of regulars. it's really awesome. Um I see Mike Mayberry and The Tick Tock chat what's up Mike How you doing Bud? Um, you know what's really neat about doing the social media thing is the community that has been created.

we've you know, a lot of us have become friends and we get to interact with each other. So I usually see Mike once or twice a year depending on different social events going on, conferences and different things and it's cool, you know, Uh, Mike Mayberry and I actually have like a weird kind of a you know, we kind of came. um uh, used to work in the same area Mike used to live in the same area as me. we didn't know each other at the time.

uh, you know, but we had run into each other because of companies that Mike had worked for. you know, I hired a former employee of his before and you know it's just. it's just funny how you know how small this little Community is of social media. But it is also really awesome that we get the opportunity to meet and communicate with these people like Mike and all the other social media creators and even viewers.

You know that have become good friends too. So social media is awesome for sure. All right. Um, let me see what we got going on in the chat.

uh I'm gonna go ahead and get this one out there. Um, because Jennifer is in here Jennifer Manzo from um The Misfits of HVAC and I'm pretty sure that Adrian's gonna pop up in here. So I'm gonna go ahead and tell you guys now because I know what's about to come. Uh no I don't have Crocs I don't wear Crocs don't like Crocs if you wear them, it's all good.

but I still won't like you? Um, you know, no. I'm just kidding. but uh yeah, it's a that's an inside joke. If you guys want to know the whole inside joke behind that, you definitely need to go follow.

Oh thank you very much for that super sticker Jim that's great. He donated on YouTube so thank you very much Bud. But um, if you guys want to know more about that whole funny joke, go check out reliable Hvacr on uh, all the different social media platforms and he's got some content out there and he's started a little running joke amongst all the different live streams. So that's what I was addressing there.
So um, let me see. Uh, so we got someone from Facebook saying that asking me do I deal with CO2 systems at all racks Um, the company that this particular person works for uh, took on a couple markets with Co2. have to work on Co2. You just want an idea what to expect and what to prepare for.

So no, I do not work on any CO2 systems. Okay, uh I have some really awesome friends that do and what you want to do is go check out the Advanced Refrigeration podcast. Uh, look out, look for it on all social media platforms Brett and Brett Wetzel Kevin Compass they are Supermarket Refrigeration technicians and trainers and um, they have a wealth of knowledge on Co2 systems. Definitely go check out the Advanced Refrigeration podcast.

You'll get what you need from them. Okay, great guys again social media creators that I otherwise wouldn't have met if we didn't have this right. So this is really awesome. Scott Thank you very much for that! Super Chat Man, you did not need to do that I Really appreciate it.

Uh, pineapple socks hit the thumbs up. Um, so there's another joke uh, inside joke of mine that came out. um and it has. well, there's actually two jokes that go with that one that have to do with pineapple.

Um, but uh yeah, that's funny. So there's this running joke again I Do a live show with my friends on YouTube called the HVAC Overtime Show. Okay, it's on the HVAC Overtime YouTube channel. Uh, it's a weekly show that we do and get to tell some funny stuff stories.

But long story short, I will say this. You guys definitely got to go check out the overtime show. Just make sure that you don't get offended easily because we are not politically correct. It's like four Dudes three to four beers in at the bar on a Friday afternoon.

Like you know, trust me, it's just a bunch of guys hanging out. So if your feelings get hurt easily, you definitely don't want to check out the show. But you guys need to go check it out. There's a lot of inside jokes flinging around about pineapple and stuff.

It's all from the overtime show. So all right, let's see what else we got going on in here. Um uh uh. did he pop in here? Yes, exactly.

Um, cool. uh. is Adrian in here now I think he is? Huh? Yeah. see I already addressed it Adrian I already did it Dude, you can't even do it Adrian Nope.

I don't wear Crocs Bro I don't like them. Don't see I see what you came here to do? I see it I See you I See you bro. All right. So um I had a service technician out at a service call I don't know if he's listening to this or not, but uh, he had a really interesting one.
And this is the kind of stuff that you wish you could get on film because a lot of times cool stuff happens out in the field and you don't necessarily think about filming it. Okay, so I had a service technician go on an ice machine call okay and I was not there but he explained it to me and I heard what was happening. He sent me pictures and videos and I got an idea what happened here. Okay, it wasn't me that solved this.

My technician and Technical Support solved this issue. He was working on an isomatic ice machine today. Okay, went out there because it had no ice. Um, when he turned the machine on it started to make ice.

but then when it went into a harvest. all of a sudden the compressor started making this just wretched sound and the compressor was sweating on the top. But it wasn't frosting, but it was sweating on the top of the compressor and the compressor was just making this ridiculously bad sound and this was only happening at Harvest. Okay, so what they actually figured out was oh oh and what I didn't tell you was when my technician called me and tried to duplicate the problem and he turned the sound on.

he had stepped away to talk to me when he put it in to harvest. The compressor was making the sound and it was vibrating really bad. Okay, so bad that this ice machine has processed stubs on it. Okay, little processed stubs.

that where they fill it with refrigerant at the factory and then they use a machine to weld it shut. It's like a weird interesting tool, right? One of the it was shaking so bad that literally I'm not joking with you. One of the process stubs cracked and started leaking refrigerant out as my technician's on the phone with me going. what the heck is going on? So anyways, what He actually found all this chaos right was caused because the machine was able to run through a cycle without water in the sump.

For whatever reason it was flooding back to the compressor and that vibrating in the shaking was the liquid refrigerant going back to the compressor. That thing is taking a beating. Basically Okay, so my technician and literally so far we we definitely got to do some work to fix some things. We don't know if we're gonna have a damaged compressor, but it's currently making ice.

Okay, but um, uh. all that we found so far was that the water float. There's a dual water float in there and the water float was dirty and for some reason it was thinking it was full of water when it wasn't So they almost killed the compressor. maybe killed a compressor.

I Haven't gotten my eyes on it, but just hearing the story. That was a pretty interesting one from today and it was really good for my technician too. So um, for for him to see that and figure it out on his own. Uh, it's it's cool when they can start and this is my old Apprentice right? He's not really my Apprentice anymore.
He's like a you know, mid-level entry-level service tech is whatever you want to call him right now, right? He's working his way up and he's doing great and that was a really cool, really fun one that he found. So um yeah, uh Steve From everything Hvacr says head sweating is not good, that compressor can't be okay I You know I mean we'll find out it's all under warranty. so I don't think that if the Met watch I trust that the manufacturer will likely tell me if it's working and it's making ice to leave it alone I bet you anything but we'll see. We'll find out.

but I thought that was a really fun one. I wish I could have gotten it on video. so um, reading through the chat right now uh, looking at all the different platforms again if you guys are on Tick Tock and you're sending me messages um uh uh I apologize because I'm still trying to go through here and figure everything out. So um, let me see what else we got going on in the chat.

Okay, cool. um oh that is really awesome. I really appreciate all the nice words people in Tick Tock are saying right now so it's really cool. Okay, um what is my opinion? Oh Jim great.

That was actually literally my third question I was going to answer that right now. so let's answer Jim's question. So Jim asks um, what is my opinion of Stay Bright 8 instead of Silphos? So when I am using uh, when I'm joining Copper to Copper Brass Just you know Refrigeration piping Basically, for the most part, I'm going to be brazing I do use uh, press tools every once in a while too. but you know in this situation I was brazing.

um and I typically. uh, brace with 15 Silphos. Okay, 15 Silphos is uh, just a stick solder and that's usually what you use for Copper to Copper connections. Okay, um, if I'm gonna be joining dissimilar medals, uh, I'm gonna use use 56 Silver solder.

Okay, so I don't use the soft solders. uh, the Stay Bright 8 I don't use that. Okay, I'm gonna tell you my opinion on Stay Bright 8. some people love it.

Some people use it all the time. I have a lot of bad history with it. Working on refrigeration equipment specifically. I've worked on a lot of wrestle equipment and Russell Refrigeration used to mount their distributor that has a bell assembly on it and it has a nozzle in it.

that distributor would get mounted to the TXV and they would use Stay Bright 8. Okay, because you don't have to get it as hot you can protect the TXV Some people do that. whatever. I find that Stay Bright 8 in that situation in walk-in Refrigeration Especially in the point that it's at, it tends to leak a lot.

Okay now I know some people swear by that stuff and they use it forever. But in my particular situations in the refrigeration stuff I noticed that it leaks a lot and then you run into a problem because if you have a joint that has been filled with stay bright 8 and then you don't know that right or you don't have stay Bright 8 on you and you try to braise and and you know with another solder it's not going to mix right and you have issues with that. and I'm actually um, was making a video today that I'll release later where I ran into this situation where you know I wasn't gonna be able to mix two different solders so I don't have good luck mixing 56 with stab right eight. It doesn't tend to last.
it might work at first, but it doesn't last the Long Haul basically Um. so I tend to use basically two solders if I'm going to be brazing 15 sofas or 56 so fast. so hopefully that answers your question. But let me Mark that one off my list and uh, we'll go from there.

All right. Reading through the chat right now: Um, is Refrigeration oil capacity measured in volume or weight? UH 60 ounces would be volume or weight. Uh, my understanding is that it's measured in volume. Uh, now it's okay.

I've I've shown when I've been making videos and we're talking about Refrigeration oil. What's the measurement you know? Um, it's in volume now I've made videos where I've weighed the oil okay and I I Find that sometimes when you don't have a measuring cup out in the field and you're curious if there's enough oil in a compressor I Mean it is going to be a little bit of a difference, but I Don't think it's going to make a huge deal when you're weighing oils out. Now, if you're weighing oil into a compressor, you definitely want to measure by volume as best as possible to make sure that you're getting it correct. That's my opinion on the matter.

Okay, um Pat Finley thank you very much from Commercial Kitchen Chronicles But uh I really do appreciate you. Uh, donating that Super Chat to the channel. You definitely didn't have to do that my friend. But thank you.

Okay, let me see what else is going on in the chat. Uh do I work on zero zones? Uh, there's Danfoss TXV Oh so he's saying he doesn't like their Txvs that they use. Um no I don't do a lot of work on Zero Zone I have in the past just at some like convenience stores and stuff. but um no I don't really work on Zero Zone a lot Again, go over and talk to my buddies Brett and Kevin um over at the Advanced Refrigeration podcast and they do a lot of the case.

Style work in cases like the Zero Zone makes and stuff so definitely check it out. Uh, let me see uh what else we got going on in the chat. Keith says I have a wolf man Jack beard Oh so check this out. That made me laugh right? because there was a comment in the chat when I was starting the live stream on YouTube and everywhere else.

Tick Tock You guys didn't hear the music as much but I always play like an 80s synth Wave Music going into my live streams and it's because I was born in the 80s. Um, you know I I Really like the music and stuff from the 80s so it's fun. You know something? I do. So let me ask you this some people and I'm gonna give you guys a few minutes to answer some people.
So thinking of the 80s okay, thinking of the 80s and the early 90s and what we used to do as kids. Okay, so I'm going to ask you guys in the chat, what do you think I'm turning 40 on Friday Okay, Friday is my 40th birthday. what do you guys think I'm gonna do for my birthday party knowing that I'm you know, a child from the 80s early 90s and this is something that we all used to do when we were in elementary school. Okay, so where am I going for my birthday or am I taking my family and stuff I'm asking what you guys think okay, uh in the chat, let me know.

So tell me or you know where you guys think I'm going for my birthday this weekend? Okay, uh, let me see. Let me see. here comes the chat right now. No clue.

Uh yeah, see. Jason knows it Jason knows it right there. Oh Daniel Shannon said it too. Uh, I'm going to a roller skating rink of all things.

I'm inviting my family. Everybody's like, wait, what? Yeah, yeah, we like. We rented the roller skating rink for two hours or something like that. I thought that'd be kind of fun.

So yeah. I've always liked the 80s for sure. All right, let's see what else we got going on in the chat. No, not.

Chuck E cheese. Oh so there's a funny story too. So in the chat right now is my buddy HVAC rookie. that's Scott okay again.

Scott and I just ran into each other on social media. We've actually we didn't work together directly, but we probably worked in the vicinity of each other and didn't know it because of, um, some. uh, I'm not going to name the chain, but some similar restaurants that we've worked at and he's worked for. and it's kind of interesting that we got to figure that out through social media and now Scots and HVAC Environment now.

so pretty neat. Um, see what we got going on in the chat right now. Someone said taking a nap for my birthday That's pretty funny. So um I had a short form content that I put out this last week.

Actually, it was the about a week ago uh where I showed that we were changing an exhaust fan right? it was mostly on social on the short form content. Actually, that's all that it was and uh I showed myself tracing out a circuit and I know it was a little bit strange. why was I tracing out the circuit that way? Um, so first off, you have to understand a lot of people thought I was crazy because I was using a circuit tracer instead of just shorting the wires right, just short the wire to ground. in theory that the circuit breaker is going to trip okay, I don't do that and I have some bad experiences with circuit breakers not tripping okay and causing big problems.

That was a big deal for me. So I learned my lesson when I did that. While most of the time it's probably going to be fine if you short a wire to ground to try to trip a circuit breaker. I mean the theory is the breaker's probably going to work, but what if it doesn't work? What if it doesn't? Okay that can lead to bad things.
What kind of sensitive equipment is on these electrical systems? And is there potential that a short to ground is going to cause something to happen with anything else on that same system? Is it possible that an inverter board is going to be damaged? We have a lot of sensitive Electronics these days. So thinking and I get it. I Get it. We've all done things for a long time, taken a wire and just shorting it to ground.

We've all like done silly things like that in our careers, right? but it's just not right. It may work. You know you may have to do what you have to do in certain situations, but we really should be doing better. Especially when we have the kind of tools that we have to be able to trace out a circuit.

Now in my video that I made that circuit tracing video, it was. You know that is not an expensive tool. I bought a piece of crap one one time because I was in a bind. That's the second time I've ever used that in the last five years.

Okay, I don't have the need to have a really expensive circuit tracer I don't have to do that often, right? So that's one thing. Um, a lot of people said that I improperly use the tool and that you're supposed to sweep the panel before and then go back and then use it to identify the breaker and you are correct. You do have to do that. But here's the thing that was a 60-second video clip if you'd like: I can send you the footage that I edited out of there because it wouldn't fit in the 60 seconds.

and that was me running my you know circuit tracer through the panel to calibrate it and then finding the breaker. Okay, so I understand something. There's more context typically than what you see in a short form clip. but I do appreciate people reaching out to me because sure, I do want to be educated.

Okay, so if I am missing knowledge I'm always looking for it from you guys if you guys want to help me out. If you guys have things or tips or whatever, hit me up like let's talk about it I'm always willing to listen to things, but you don't got to be a jerk about it, right? So all right, Um, what else we got going on in the chat? Reading through, it's kind of hard to follow this chat right now I'm trying to um I really appreciate all the nice words everybody's saying. so thank you very much. Um, uh, all right.

cool. So um, let me read through the chat see what I'm missing. Have I ever fired a customer? Yes I have fired a customer? Um, there's been a couple different times we had a customer file bankruptcy on us and we were just not interested and then they wanted to keep doing work for them and we were like not until you pay up you know, like no. So we had to let that customer go and other ones like that? Yeah, definitely have.

So um who asked the question about shorting the wire? Oh my gosh, Go look Cyborg. Go look on any one of my uh, short form content it It's one of the most popular questions. um as to uh, what was stated in all my comments like seriously, everybody was like I should have just shorted it to ground and I realized I'm not saying you're bad for doing that, but come on. with all the new sensitive equipment we have out there, you can't be doing that anymore.
and what happens if something doesn't trip right in my situation. It was a little bit different, but I kept resetting and replacing a fuse that was bad on a system. this was years ago. um, and I kept and this was long before I really knew what the heck I was doing.

but I went out in the middle of the night. air conditioner not working. found that had a blown fuse. there was an extra fuse, threw it in there, turned it on Boom fuse is blown again.

Okay, all right, so my dumb dumb self right for again decided Well let's just throw in another fuse and see maybe it was just a bad fuse I don't know what I was thinking right? So put in a third fuse this time, turn it on. Everything in the building shuts off. Okay, so what the heck, man, it didn't trip the breaker for the unit. It tripped the main for the entire panel right and when I went to go reset that main, it was a 480 volt main.

It was a golf course in California Here, 480 volt main was broken inside it. it wouldn't reset. it was literally broken. The circuit breaker broke on the inside of it and that customer had to go without that entire panel for the entire weekend because they couldn't get a 480 volt main breaker over the weekend for whatever reason, right? So that was an instance where I learned my lesson like no, I wasn't just directly shorting a wider ground, but in in theory by changing the fuses over and over again eventually.

Yeah, it was like doing that. Okay, Um, and I learned my lesson from that and hearing horror stories from a lot of other people I don't want to be shorting things to ground to find a breaker. Okay, I want to use a tool because we have them available to us, right? That's my theory behind it. Um, so okay.

so I have heard this. Apparently there is a calendar that is being made with I'm in it and I didn't know that I was in it apparently. So good, Gosh, right? I Okay, so let's just say that I have a super secret private chat with my friends from the HVAC overtime show. Okay, it's a Facebook messenger chat that is not safe for work.

Okay, and uh I have shared some ridiculously stupid pictures of myself in that chat I have no idea I I know what's going on I was put in the calendar by some of my friends and I don't know what picture they're using. So I'm a little bit concerned. just just a lot. A bit concerned because I have no idea what pictures they are using for this calendar.

Interesting, right? Okay, all right. Um, if you haven't ever heard a medium voltage Chiller starter click your poop. So my buddy Jason Johnson in the chat on YouTube Uh, Works uh in the commercial industrial kind of work. so he works on some big stuff so it's interesting because we talk back and forth and he gets to share some of the really cool stuff he's working on.
Um, so I made another short form content video and I was talking about uh and it it kind of exploded but it had a lot of negative feedback on it. It was the one that I made where I was talking about being efficient. Okay, so basically we were changing a compressor and and I was waiting for someone to bring me the compressor. but while I was waiting I was moving I was getting everything I could done, sanding things up you know, getting ready to cut components out and different things and I was saying in the short form video like hey, stay efficient with your time and a lot of people pushed back saying that they're not gonna stay efficient, they're not gonna work fast and and smart.

you know, like And they were pushing back because I was telling people to to to be efficient with their time right? and that's kind of a bummer that the industry a good amount of it you know is that lazy and thinks that way. It really is a bummer because as a technician you should always be trying your best if you feel like you're not appreciated if you feel like your company is not worth it to try your best at. I Mean let's be real, you really shouldn't be working in there because if if you don't enjoy where you're working and you don't want to go back every day, find something different. I Realized that there's some places, um, you know that it's hard to get a job, but HVAC is one of those things that you know there's lots of places to work.

So if you're in that type of a business where you know or working at a company where you feel like you don't want to try just because you don't like it. my gosh, man, move on. it's time, all right. Uh, see what else we got going on in there? Um ah okay.

cool. uh. let's see. those are some videos that I worked on in the last week.

I'm crossing some things off a list right here that I have uh I already answered that one in my short form video where uh P you know I use the circuit tracer to find the breaker. uh did I label the breaker? yes I did again short form content only had 60 seconds. Was there a safety switch on the roof? Yes, there was a safety switch but if you listen to the video, a lot of people said that I was dumb because I should have just changed the motor out I already had the power off because I pulled the wires off right but they weren't listening to what I said in the video. I said I was changing an exhaust fan, not a motor.

The main power comes up in a seal tight conduit through the exhaust fan and into an electrical box that I didn't want to pull those wires out through there while it was live. I was trying to be an example for the technicians that were actually doing the job I had other guys on that job and I just went by there to help them find the breaker and then they basically, you know, um, finish the job. so again trying to set examples, trying to show people what to do. Uh Brandon priests Uh, thank you very much for that super chat.
but I really appreciate it. Um, what would I do if I have a customer calling me to fix the equipment that someone else won the bid but no idea what they're doing. Okay, so I hear this happening a lot and I see it on social media quite a bit where people talk about. um, you know someone going out and giving a quote and then their quote not being taken and them using someone cheaper.

and then they try to call back the guy in the beginning that they didn't hire because you know, obviously it's not working anymore. This happens quite often. um I've never been in this situation, not that exact situation. I've definitely gone behind people and I've had people go behind me.

Okay, um so. but um I mean you know it's just kind of frustrating if it does happen. but you know if you're there to make money when they ask you to fix the stuff I mean triple your prices I mean do what you got to do, make some good money off of that and go back in there I Know that it sucks they didn't use you for the original repair or replacement, but go for it. but make good money.

Don't do it at low budget prices for sure. So um, okay, uh, let's read through here. reading through some of my questions that I have on here. um I already answered that one? Uh, okay, what is? Oh, this is an interesting question.

Uh, you know. I I Don't mind answering these kind of questions So, but it was just an interesting one that came through. Someone asked, uh, what was the longest employee that we've ever had work for my company that's not a family member. Great question because my dad and myself my dad started this company 25 30 years ago and uh, something like that and um, I've taken it over.

and my dad's uh, basically he still works, but he only comes in a couple days a week and um, so uh, what? um I lost my train of thought on that one right now. Oh, but anyways, what's the longest time someone's worked for us? Uh, so we've had I Want to say that the longest time frame for an employee that wasn't a family member was probably 13 years, 12 or 13 years. I think we had a technician that started about the same time he started about three years after I did when I officially started working for my dad at the time. then this other technician started like three years later.

So we kind of came up together. Uh yeah, he stayed with us for an extended period of time, but he inevitably decided to get out of the industry. actually changed Industries and went to work uh, in another part of the construction industry. So and actually, as far as I know, he's doing really well right now.
So I do keep up with most of those guys. So um, read through the chat, see what I'm missing? How can a new compressor get locked up is being asked? I Mean there's a lot of things. Usually it's a mechanical damage that's going to cause a situation where the compressor seized inside of itself. Okay, majority of the time something has happened.

Something has overheated, some metals, got fatigued, some, you know bad things happen within that compressor because it's a high temperature environment. Um, all right, let me see what else we got going on in the chat. Uh oh, This is a great one that came through in one of my videos. Why braze? Um, Oh Okay, so they were confused because I was making a repair on a beer walking and I was not braising while nitrogen was flowing.

So here's the thing. I'm not a perfect technician. I Don't always do everything a hundred percent Okay, Um, but in certain situations you have to be practical with the way the system was designed. When you have to pump down a refrigeration system, that means that you shut off the refrigerant flow coming out of the receiver and the refrigerant backs up between the receiver and the compressor itself.

Okay, and it's just stuck right there and you. When you do that, you can go downstairs and change components and make leak repairs. and then you can Evacuate the system and then change the dryer obviously and start it back up right. open up the king valve and let the refrigerant flow through.

So when you do that, when you do that, pump down, um, you, uh, you have a problem if you try to braise with nitrogen because some bad things can happen oftentimes when you're in a pump down situation. uh, refrigerant can still leak by or vice versa if you over pressurize the system trying to do a pressure test, you can push nitrogen in you can you know in through the compressor you can cause issues there, right? It doesn't sound like it can happen, but it can. So it's very difficult to braise with nitrogen because of configurations of the ports and different things on most refrigeration systems. So like let's just say, you wanted to flow it through the receiver.

Well, you don't typically have an access poured into the receiver because you've got it pumped down right to to go to the port. you know the line going out of the receiver. so it's just kind of difficult. So sometimes I can braise with nitrogen on pumped down systems, but most of the time it's not very practical.

So um, when I uh, swage copper I had a question from someone in one of the chats They were asking when I'm using the because right now I'm using the Nav swaging tool or use the spin swaging tool or whatever they're asking me am I annealing the pipe before I do the swage? no with the new Navac one I am not annealing the pipe. uh if you guys don't know what annealing is, uh when you have hard drawn, it's the easiest way to explain it when you have hard drawn copper pipe. uh, if you try to bend it it will crack and usually Kink and it won't make a clean Bend Okay, but if you anneal the pipe. which is a process of heating the pipe up and then rapidly cooling it, um, then what? It makes it annealed copper and then you can bend it.
Okay, so the question is when I'm swaging with the swaging tool Am I annealing it? No, I'm not anymore. When I was using the spin swages or the rectocele swages that were attachments for the drills, those would actually swage the copper and help or anneal it essentially and then help the suede. Well, not in that one actually. Yeah, no in the swage ones.

Yeah, it would. So yeah, but um, uh no. but with the navic one, I'm not. So yeah, you didn't do tend to run into issues where you have cracking copper.

But don't try to use a swaging tool on hard drone copper. only on soft copper. is that when you're doing that? Um David Had asked me a question why you typically don't use a sight glass on residential air conditioning in residential. The way that the equipment is designed.

Uh, they have excess refrigerant stored in the condenser, waiting for a demand, waiting for a load. especially when you have a thermostatic expansion valve because the expansion valve can open and close and require different amounts of liquid refrigerant. So on air conditioning equipment for residential side. Typically, it's designed in a way that the extra refrigerant gets stored in the condenser that's not being used.

okay because of the sizing of the condenser So the the way that they do that without a receiver, they are very dependent on the subcoin to know that they have the perfect amount of refrigerant even when it's not always being used. Okay, so a sight glass being a window into the system is a good indicator when you're working on a refrigeration system with a receiver to know if it's properly charged as long as it doesn't have a low ambient winter. you know, head pressure control, valves and stuff, right? So um, uh again, I'm losing my train of thought on this one right now I totally lost my train of thought I'm sorry, apologize about that. All right.

Another question and comment that I get is about my brazing techniques. A lot of people are pushing back because they're saying I'm not brazing Rider I'm using too much solder I Try to address that in the videos as much as possible when I am working on a refrigeration system. Um, you know I try to make sure that I do things as best as possible when I'm brazing I'm not perfect. okay I'm learning still.

Um, I'm always learning and uh, I'm not always going to do everything that works for you. Okay, uh, my braising may not be the best, but it works for me. But at the same time, people that push back on us using too much solder because I mentioned that in my videos I actually encourage all my technicians to use too much solder because I'd rather waste a little bit of solder on that. Make sure that we get a good, nice clean Cup on the joint then have a potential leak.
so I don't mind wasting a little bit of solder. All right? Um, reading through the chat right now? Yeah I Always get brain fog for sure. All right. Um, cool.

Well it is time to wrap this one up. Um I have been trying to make these a little bit shorter and shorter because um, for my sanity. So I really appreciate you guys I really am going to uh oh um yeah. and that being that I will not be on the HVAC overtime show this Friday just thought about that.

Hey Overtime guys I don't think I told you guys that but it's my birthday so I'm not going to be on the show so good luck with that one guys. Uh HVAC overtime show will be Friday 605 p.m Pacific on YouTube on the HVAC or I'm sorry the HVAC Overtime YouTube channel. So um, all right I'm gonna queue up the outro music again I Really do appreciate everybody. uh Tick Tock I'm gonna go ahead and close out and uh, we will definitely catch you on the next one and let me hit this button right here again.

Really appreciate you guys. Foreign Thank you thank you thank you Foreign Thank you Foreign.
