This was a quick video I put together to show how we can protect condenser coils. These coating can extend the life and protect the condensers from salt and other corrosives that would otherwise corrode the coil. The coating I used in this video was Viper Coil Coating there will be a link below

What we're going to do today is we're actually going to coat both of these coils with a protective coating because we are by the ocean. We don't want these things to deteriorate, so we're going to go through the process of protecting these things. Right now we completely removed the condenser fan motors. Just went ahead and cut the wires i'll put quick connectors and the first step is we're going to clean the condenser thoroughly with water, and then we're going to use the viper condenser coil cleaner to get all the oils and grime and stuff off of it.
And then we're going to go ahead and dry it with the blower and then apply the coil coating to it all right, we're going to give it a good wrench. Then we're gon na apply the coil coating or coil cleaner, we're using the condenser coil cleaner. It's completely aluminum and micro channel safe, no worries with that. Let it sit on there for about 10 minutes and we'll give it a rinse.
So now i'm going to take the air blower and blow all the water off. So that way we get a nice clean, dry surface. This is a good example of how much water gets stuck in these micro channels uh. So, oh so so, uh, okay, okay, coil coating, we're gon na shake it up real good and apply an even coat inside and out, and we can go and hit the refrigeration piping on the side too.
So so so, okay, so i did both of the condensers and i still have probably half a can left. So it did quite a bit all right. I'm gon na start assembling uh. I've already done the other one.
It says wait about 30 to 60 minutes. So that's about enough time for me to put the fan motors back in and start assembling the units. All right, this guy is put back together. Um wires are all have quick connects on them, so that way they can be replaced easily we're gon na turn.
This bad boy back on it's been off for about an hour now plenty of time for the coil coating to dry and there's no uh. It doesn't even look like there's anything there, so it dries clear: it doesn't uh mess up the heat transfer or anything so fire this guy back up. I imagine it's gon na turn on and then pump down financial fan motors working. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised, because this has an intelligent controller downstairs and it has a separate power source for the evaporator.
So i probably aired out because uh it ran, you know, without seeing a change in superheat, so we'll probably have to go down there and reset that, but all is well protecting the aluminum and copper is so important, especially when you're by the coast uh this particular Location was about i'd, say a mile and a half maybe two miles at the most from the ocean, so they get just the salt in the air and it just eats everything away. The condensing unit that this replaced was completely deteriorated. So these coatings are very, very important and with a viper, coil coating, it was super easy to use just make sure that you wash the coil with a coil cleaner before, if you're doing micro channel make sure you use a micro channel safe, cleaner if you're not Doing a micro channel you just have a standard, copper, tube and fin uh. You can use the viper bright, cleaner and that'll get a really good etch on it. Okay, um, but yeah, nothing too crazy. With this one uh, it was just a quick little video. I threw together, i've actually been sitting on this footage for a while, so figured i'd go ahead and release it. I really appreciate you guys taking the time to watch the video, especially if you made it to the end.
Uh, please consider supporting the channel by using my uh offer code, big picture. One word at truetechtools.com. It can save you eight percent on your order. Uh.
If you guys are interested in purchasing anything uh. Do me a favor shoot me an email. I can generate some affiliate links. It'll help me a bit more uh also got merch available on hvacrvideos.com, hats and shirts.
You guys can purchase um other ways to support the channel. If you are so inclined to do so, you can become a patron on patreon uh. You can become a youtube channel, member um yeah and that's pretty much it again. I really appreciate it and we'll catch you guys on the next one.
Do you know if this Viper Coil Coat is safe for the painted/ black coated Carrier/Bryant condenser coils?
I have a sailboat with three small air conditioning units (on the ocean) is there any additional cleaning / protecting you can suggest? Love the videos despite not being in the industry – THX
Great video but I belive the drying part Should have been edited and make it short ! Way too much of same things Service area Kanata??
id love to see a residential cleaning guide using the viper products. great videos 🙂
So is there no truth to co ils working more efficiently when they are wet? I have seen information that suggest condenser coils are more efficient when wet.
????? Are you in Orleans ?
I would almost want to use a wet-dry-vac or something rather than the blower. I dunno. It was satisfying watching it all spray out though.
Is that better than the old red stuff
What about reapplication frequencies?
There is a product called hairasite I am not sure that I have spelled this product right, but you have to remove coils to apply it,s very good for high corrosive areas. There is a manufacturer that will apply the product when you order it. You may now about this product already.
What supply house are you getting the refrigeration technologies cleaners?
Can I use this on any condenser that is alluminium like house ac system???
For anyone that has used this. How much longer does this protect the unit? I live in Hawaii and everywhere is a problem with salt air and also the humidity. Thanks for the videos! Truly awesome
Just a question. Doesnt the coating affect the heat transfer rate? Service area Nepean??
Most microchannel coil leak at the header base footing.
Can I use this coating on resturant evaporator? To protect from vinegar corrosion.
Question – How often would this have to done? Are you in Barrhaven ?
We use to put a heresite coating on unit coils that we installed around the gulf coast.
We also use it on commercial equipment we installed in certain factories, paper mills and in areas that were prone to corrosion due to manufacturing chemicals.
I saw this coating today at the parts house. Not sure how efficient it would be on an older unit. Are you in Nepean ?
Nick from Certified AC here on Maui.
We use massive quantities of coil coating product out here in HI. The best one is called Action Clear. Developed in Australia. Can be used to coat coils, housings, and even PC boards.
I wonder if this can be used on evaporator coils constantly attacked by acidic foods. Are you in Ottawa ?
warning vivper venom pack can contain peices of snakes
Excellent work and thanks for the content stay safe and take care
I lived in Huntington Beach a few years back, and I was about 4 miles from the ocean. Sometimes the salty air would reach that far, often times at night I could smell bonfire smoke and the smell of seaweed. I really do miss that cool ocean breeze, but I don’t miss the high cost of living there!
Always love the videos. Thanks for all the info. Just grabbed a veto at trutech tools with your code. Thanks bro!
Amazing all of the new products that are out today! Sounds like a good plan for protecting the condenser coil and operational effecientcy! Great video!
Anybody in Houston Texas accepting new techs?? Currently looking forward to learn
Hey great product to use. Have you tried a wider thinner nozzle on the blower to make it quicker to get the water off? Just a suggestion for you. Thank you for the video and a great tech for sure.
Maybe a stupid question? Is it possible to tip the condentor to its side? Then all the water would pull down to earth.
How long does that spray last for you in your location? Salts so hard on equipment, and I’m in a area where 75 inches of rain is average. A lot of work of ours is within 1-2 miles from the ocean. Do you think spraying that on every 1-2 years is too much? Equipment can start showing rust in less then a year. Thanks for the info !
Love the videos keep up the great work will we be getting the install video for these soon
Is the nu-calgon the same as what you applied? I was going to use on a condensor by the atlantic ocean and sales rep said it would mess up heat transfer. What's your opinion?
Condenser coil gets relaxing spa treatment…
Sometimes while watching these vids, I find myself thinking, he's going through the same steps as I would, Sometimes in a different order but still the same. Keep up the good work Chris! Love these vids. Service area Barrhaven??
Awesome work !!!
If you don’t mind me asking, where did you purchase your water hose ? …looks like it’s a good quality one.
Sorry I havent been up to date on your vids I had my finals today and needed to study!
great vid. so how often do you need to reapply the coating or is there a way to tell when you need to reapply? i would guess you would do the same application process to reapply.
It’s quite therapeutic watching you clean coils.
Why are there so many different R types? That's lotta refrigeration types out there
I know you're in the ie so where is there ocean in the Inland Empire
Where do you get the viper venom packs my supply house don’t seem to carry them the only think they carry is the condenser cleaner in the can and a big red jug of condenser cleaner but not the packs I want to try them
Maybe the condenser should be coated with Parylene at the factory.
