In this video, Bryan and Bert install the Sensi Touch 2 smart thermostat, covering some of its unique features along the way. You can learn more about the Sensi Touch 2 at https://hvacrschool.com/touch2.
The #Sensi Touch 2 comes with some energy-saving features, including the auxiliary heat lockout, which allows the heat pump to operate on its own without the backup heat if it can handle the heating load. There is also a balance point feature, which locks out the heat pump when the heat pump is less efficient than the auxiliary heat.
You can also connect the #Touch2 to Sensi room sensors (RS01-SG), which pull temperature data from specific points throughout the home.
The Sensi Touch 2 design is also sleek and lightweight and provides an improved user experience. You can also add #contractor contact information to the thermostat so that customers can easily contact you whenever they need help; this feature is part of Sensi's contractor branding initiatives. The thermostat comes with two accessory terminals (ACC+ and ACC-), which allow you to connect supplementary equipment, like dehumidifiers, to be controlled by the smart thermostat.
When Bert replaces the thermostat, he pays attention to the wire colors and terminals, though you can apply labels to the wires to help you install them correctly on the new thermostat. The Sensi Touch 2 comes with a leveling bubble, which allows you to mount the thermostat perfectly level on the wall. After reconnecting the wires to the new thermostat, use an insulating material to cover the hole in the wall, as the temperature conditions inside the wall will affect thermostat readings. Once the thermostat has been powered on, you can configure the settings on the screen.
Occupants can easily adjust the temperature with simple plus and minus signs on the large display screen. They can also easily access operating modes and fan settings, allowing them to manage their comfort and #hvac system without hassle.

All right. Today we're going to be installing the Sensey Touch 2. We've already done some prior videos on this, but there's some features that we want to highlight specifically and a lot of them have to do with energy consumption. When we think about thermostats for heat pump specifically and how they save energy, there's two really big things that make a huge difference.

One is the auxiliary heat lockout, which allows you to lock out the auxiliary heat in temperatures where the heat pump can maintain the temperature. so that would be you know in many cases 40, 50 in that range the heat pump's going to be able to keep up. Some cases is even lower than that, depends on your unit, and if you don't have that feature and somebody goes and drops a thermostat, you'll have that backup heat come on needlessly when the heat pump can do it on its own. And then we also have balance point, which is the ability to lock out the heat pump when the temperatures get so low that the heat pump is no longer functioning as efficiently as whatever the auxiliary heat source is.

So basically both ends of that Spectrum with a thermostat, you can control it from both sides. One you need to lock out when the heat pump can actually run and shine at its best. The other time when it's so cold, the heat pump's not doing much, but just pulling electricity. Let's turn that off and use the backup.

One of the other features is the sensors that they have. You can put them in different places in the house and they connect wirelessly with the thermostat so you can pick up different temperatures from other areas in the home. One of the things I really like about Sensey Touch 2o is the fact that the design has been proven to be something that consumers really appreciate. It's very simple Blends in with their Decor they've actually done studies with consumers and they've said that they really prefer F this design and it's easy to see why.

It's very sleek and again for the contractor, it's really easy to utilize for even things like contractor branding where through the app you can actually enter your information and it goes to the thermostat over and over and over again very easily rather than having to key it in each time which is really great design feature for contractors. Another feature that I like about it as a technician is the ACC plus ACC minus terminals. So you actually have the ability to hook up an external piece of equipment like a dehumidifier and control it through the thermostat. Yeah, which is really important in our Market where it's humid and we need to be able to do that quite often.

So we're installing the Ciny Touch 2 right here. It's time to give this thermostat a little bit of an upgrade. So I just want to pay attention to what colors are being used on What terminals when it's time to replace a thermostat. I Actually do have some labels inside here to make that easy that I can label wires if maybe, uh, the colors that are being used are a little different than what I'm used to or you can just take a picture which is also a great move.
I'm going to go ahead and clean up this mess a bit. Sure is important to have nice clean connections, clean wires. No potential shorts M That's the job of an electrician to remove their client shorts. Okay, so I'm going to line it up, figure out exactly where the holes need to be.

Do have a couple. We also have a leveler on top so we can have this actually looking level. Nothing lets your client know that you don't care about quality work like when you put in a thermostat or you don't use anchors and it's not securely mounted onto the back back wall and it starts to fall off or sag or slip after a couple days. We're not going to have any of that here.

I have my red and blue which for me is the the red is a constant power and blue is a common and now I'm hooking up orange which controls our reversing valve. My auxiliary on W2 green on G for the blower call. Whenever you're installing a thermostat, you want to be checking to make sure that the hole behind it is properly sealed. You want an airtight seal? Any air that's back there will make it into the thermostat and affect the sensor reading: temperature, humidity.

Um, especially if you're dealing with a situation where there's a pressure difference between the wall channel right behind this thermostat and what's in this space. which is something that can change from one day to the next. So you have to be very careful. It needs to be airtight seal.

The little hole is not good enough. Filled in completely. I'm going to do that next. Okay, I'm only happy with this job once.

I Know it's a complete airtight seal. You could put something in the hole before, but sometimes when you're hooking up the wires, you loose that up and it's not airtight anymore. So I usually just put some Putty in there after I've hooked up all the wires. All right.

Advanced Setup: HVAC Equipment: Outdoor Indoor reversing valve position Auxiliary Lockout Okay, Configure: great auxiliary heat settings Current outdoor Temperature: 69 Lock out disables auxiliary heat so we have that on so we can actually dra our lockout right now. it's set at 80 I'm going to bring that down to a reasonable 40 disable auxiliary heat above 45 All right. I'm going to go ahead and enable the balance point for auxiliary heat. Turn that on.

This comes preset to 5. Um. now of course in Florida My market. Uh, we're not seeing minus 5 very often.

Never. Uh, so this is a feature that we're not going to use much in this market. Um, but we have this here. This at 5, your heat pump is going to be struggling to produce any heat, right? Uh, so your auxiliary is going to become more efficient to use in those kind of conditions.

So that's where that feature comes into play and actually saves you money. We can turn off our heat pump that's not really producing anything and heat with our auxiliary heat. So additional Accessories: This is for if we have our dehumidifier setup or humidifier setup. we can actually wire that into the ACC plus and ACC minus and control an additional accessory.
Look at this thermostat, It's it's easy to use. It's got a nice large display for temperature to adjust. You're just going to press the up and down plus minus right here on the side modes. Everything's easily accessible.

Mode Fan Fantastic Menu All right. So that is the installation of the Sensey Touch 2 with its energy saving capabilities. Find it at a quality distributor near you. Thanks for watching! If you're willing, give this video a thumbs up and drop us a comment.

A ventilation control (erv/outdoor air damper enable) output and schedule function would have been an incredibly nice feature on this Service area Barrhaven??

It is easy to use I sold and installed a couple of. My one customer who has several heat pumps in one building, having me change all of them over because he likes to see from home with the temperatures and operation settings of each thermostat throughout the building that he can control from the comfort of home.
