California must have the highest rates for electric…SCE is currently charging 42 cents per kWh so if your summer consumption is 1,600 kWh for one month, the bill will be about $650. In addition, SCE claims their average residential meter uses 550 kWh per month. I would disagree with that and suggest they publish power consumption for each season or every quarter (winter, spring, summer, fall) so that the public can compare the real world with some of the actual consumption in each season. Averages for all types of residences and all seasons lumped into one number weakens or dilutes the true number when looked in depth.

We have a 93 percent efficient Force Air Gas Furnace. The HVAC Contractor wanted to tear out the Furnace and put in a 15 SEER Heat Pump. We argued and said for them to use the Furnace as an air handler for the Heat Pump and the Gas Furnace for Emergency Heat. They did and we are glad. Ran the Heat Pump in January 2024. Had an electric bill of $410! Switched back to Natural Gas.
