They should sell a switch that shuts the system down if the door is left open for more than 5 minutes. Similar to the manual switch you would use if you were unloading a truck or something. It would cut down a ton on people leaving doors open
I am the same way when trouble shooting. I have to talk to myself and work through it.
The process of evaluating the way the evap is iced up is a huge window into the issues itโs been having. Your idea of having a clear ice build up on the bottom being an indicator of the system trying to defrost is not something Iโve thought of in the past and Iโm sure is correct. Always able to impress knowledge in these vids and Iโm just so thankful for them and you.
Every good technician talks to themselves!
Every tech rambles to himself especially when they're trying to figure out why they're dealing with what they're dealing with. Sometimes it helps to verbalize the thoughts to figure things out
Walk in cooler at my bar actually died today. Thanks to what I've learned from you I was able to diagnose a shorted start winding. Now to get a tech out to actually fix it…..
Of COURSE you talk to yourself all the time…
How else are you going to have an Intelligent Conversation?

That time clock looked immaculate, which makes me think it isn't that old. Are analog timers still popular? What are the pros and cons compared to a digital timer?
Why not measure the Heater current at the clock? Once they are proved, Mark the timer with the reading, to have it available for a quick check. Service area Nepean??
management needs to post a note on the door "if you want to be paid…………. LEAVE THE DAMN DOOR SHUT!!" Are you in Barrhaven ?
Ugh at pigeons, my building put giant netting over the balconies last year (15 stories), sooooo much better.
from someone who worked at a restraunt we (the magers mainly) opened the boxes wherever they liked to. weather it be inside the fridge or freezer. is it best practices idk but it happenes. Are you in Ottawa ?
Thanks for the upload
Thank you..luv that you fix problem not just the symptoms..Big picture
Chris your videos are awesome and don't get in to negative comments, it's called YOU tube..just be you it's just right combination of things.we luv ur videos..
I do the same thing as you do ๐
Where is Luke? He's a celebrity now. He's part of the HVACR family.
Chris I've been watching the channel from the very beginning , learned a lot from you over the years .
If I may give you my 2 cents : for the past couple years the talk at the end of the video has gradually been getting longer and longer and we're now at a point where it's in fact longer than the actual footage .
I gotta be honest mate , I think this is a bit too much innit .
Just my 2 cents , I would have said it via email but you get so many these days I doubt you would have read it . Service area Kanata??
Very good explanation of what you are doing. I used to do commercial , but that's refrigeration, don't really miss it
This is the best service call channel in my (HVAC) opinion.
Been using that same sprayer and it works great! Thanks for showing me.
"A day in the life kinda thing" that's why I'm watching your videos, and a bit of education on the side is nice. Thank you for doing this.
Add cook slap flaps and stickers next to the door.
I always skip the wand story. ๐
I did once get quite ill using a mapp torch in a tiny room many years ago, I either use water or electric hot air gun now!
For melting ice on the coil with your hose, where is the best place to hook up your hose? Service area Orleans??
I'm the one man HVACR division of a nashville remodel company and I've recently been tossed into commercial refrigeration and honestly I'd have no idea where to start if it weren't for your videos and others like you. I get they're not meant to be walkthroughs or training videos but watching thought processes and troubleshooting processes is how I, and I assume the majority of us, learned in the first place. HVACR is the only trade in which I've experienced the level of care to pass on knowledge to the next guy and the consistent pride taken in our work. We appreciate you, king.
I am enjoying your videos , Iโm not in HVAC business, I a, a swimming pool service technician, I am learning from you on how to be testing electricial and to help me troubleshoot things better. Keep up the good videos
Hot water burns through ice the fastest! I have a several pump sprayers if I canโt get a hose on it or donโt want to get hoses out. I have a similar hose sprayer with the mist and shower settings!
I also fight the good fight of keeping doors closed. I show the customer the dirt on their coils and this one was pretty clean compared to many! Dirt does and lint doesnโt just magically appear in a unit.
My company built coolers for a research lab at a large hospital in Memphis. They complained about mold in their cooler and had the nerve to argue me that they arenโt keeping the door open even though you could see tons of dirt and lint on the coils! Haha research scientist arguing me about a door being closed with clear evidence ๐๐๐

I talk to myself all the time. If anyone points it out, I just tell them that I need someone intelligent to talk to.
Talking to yourself through a technical issue is normal for most techs and mechanics.
Most of your viewers understand this as they do so themselves either internally or vocally.
In a way it is part of the process to gather, retain, and discard finds and probabilities preventing brain hash.
I have learned a lot about refrigeration by watching your videos . I have a GE built-in refrigerator that actually uses a fan delay after defroster runs.
While Iโm not in HVAC I do the EXACT SAME thing of talking to myself about what Iโm doing as Iโm doing it.

Whatโs your best process when you have a failed pan heater and you canโt melt the ice
Without water going everywhere? Thanks.
If the heaters are working why is there ice on the coil? Are you in Kanata ?
Another great video. You are an awesome refrigeration technician and I am still learning a lot from your channel. Thanks for the videos.
Get some work in LA county, I'll run it Chris ๐ Residential is not my cup of tea, I miss commercial!!!!!!
Cardlint
I totally agree. Service area Ottawa??
