Hey Pool Owners: Are you using your pool's solar cover the wrong way? Solar covers can help retain heat and stop evaporation in your pool, but they don't work as well if they're upside down. The secret is making sure the bubbles touch your water. That's because heat gets trapped inside the bubbles and that means your solar cover needs to be bubble side down to help insulate your water. These pool covers seems to accelerate algae growth even after its chemically balanced. Whenever I balance my pool chemicals and aerate it, I cover the pool to reduce evaporation. Days later, I get algae every time. I completely stopped using it for this reason.

    What gives?

Any recommendations for covers that can be used for above ground pools, for those of us that live in the desert? Temperature today is 110 degrews and my pool is in the 90's uncovered. I want to cover it to keep debris out but a dolar cover will make it unbearable to jump in the water. Any recommendations for us?

Solar covers are a major pain. They fall apart/disintegrate after two to three seasons.

They don't last like they used too. They just fall apart and plastics gets all in the system & pool.

I live in Az and the water gets hot very fast. I want to cover my pool but as soon as the sun rises the pool gets boiling hot if not uncovered. Any tips on cover to prevent evaporation but nothing that will raise the temperatures Service area Kanata??

Correct but not for the reason you said. Air is a good insulator and the bubbles facing down blockes air movement (both in the bubbles and outside by trapping the air) i.e. by raising the backing and thus putting a roof over the air. So the total insulation is the thickness of the bubble wrap. If the bubbles are facing up, air can move freely in between the bubbles by wind and heavily reducing the insulation properties to just the thickness of the plastic backing.
