Are you wanting the best filtration in your home? Air filtration? cleaning the air the best way possible? And you've seen all these different options out there and you're not quite sure what the best way to go? I Was helping somebody on our website the other day and we were going back and forth on a few things and they had some concerns and I thought it would make for a good video. First of all, who am I my name is Josh I host the HVAC guide for homeowners YouTube channel. Let's dive into this: if you are looking at getting a HEPA filter for your home. HEPA stands for high Efficiency particulate air filter and so why would you even want a HEPA filter HEPA Filters to be even called a HEPA filter has to meet certain requirements.

You've got these other filters with high Merv ratings. They still don't meet the requirements to be called a HEPA filter. To be called a HEPA filter, it has to capture at least 99.97 of fine Airborne particles with the size of 0.3 microns and so when air filters are this good, when they're filled filtering out that many of the particulates floating through the air, they're going to filter out a lot of the things that your typical air filters may not. So in addition to the dust, pollen, and mold and things like that, it's also going to filter out bacteria, some viruses possibly, and Airborne particles with those smaller sizes.

So there's High Merv filters out there that you gotta constantly look at. What's my static pressure? What's my static drop across that air filter. And that's a lot of concern for folks, especially when they are dealing with heating and air systems that the ductwork might be undersized to start with. and then you go stick in these higher end better filters that filter out more particulates.

But then they start to cause other issues. So one of the things that we were talking about with this customer on our website is these systems that maybe has a bypass air filter. so you don't necessarily restrict the airflow going through your heating and air system quite as bad if installed properly. These bypass HEPA filtration systems won't affect the static pressure hardly at all, but we've done a video recently on what I think may be one of the best solutions for your home.

especially if you are dealing with issues: whether it's odors, whether it's breathing, issues with someone in your home, whether it's allergies, whether it's whatever reason you want to filter the air better in your home. And that's these Standalone units that Daikin makes. Check out those videos that I've done on those units I Think that they're a great solution. They have ultraviolet light that cleans the air, they've got the HEPA filtration, and they've got the carbon filtration that helps with odors among other things.

And if you decide you'd like to purchase one of those units, just click it down in the description. We'll put a link that if you click that you'll be able to save 10 percent off of one of those units. just as a thank you for watching our videos. So let me know your thoughts.
Are you considering getting the top of the line filtration of some type for your home? I'd love to hear about that comment down below. Let me know why you are looking at that. sort of: why are you concerned about the air you're breathing in your home I'd love to hear about that if you like this video I Think you'll like this one even more. It's where I break down how to compare heating and air systems and the efficiency ratings.

Thanks for watching. Hit that subscribe button. We'll see you next time.

My furnace is jammed in the attic without enough room for a filter media to be installed and here in northern California we can get VERY heavy smoke from wildfires. My house came with 2 returns (20x30x1) for my 3-ton system in the hallway, i added a fresh air duct with an inline 14x14x4 merv 13 filter box from hvacquick, 1' deep return cans with high-efficiency 2" filter grilles from Truaire for both the hallway filter grilles and i added another 14x14x2 filter grille to the master bedroom. I run merv 13 filters year round and my return static is neglible. House is now very lightly overpressured and has done a great job of keeping the dust and smoke out

Very good Topic! We recently added a MERV 13 filter to our HVAC system and found our our energy bills increased by about $40 a month – the most ever in 19 years. The vast majority of dirty particulates were getting trapped on the filter 2 inches from the right side – which means the air was having a hard time getting through the filter and it was escaping to the right of it. So, we immediately got rid of them. I don't think UV Lights are really that effective in air purifiers and I've dealt with a lot of different air purifier brands but I'm not sure how good the Daiken brand is. I will say this, over 90% of the air purifiers that say "HEPA" do NOT actually work at a HEPA level as the industry is not regulated enough. Great Topic! ๐Ÿ‘

Trick to good air filtration, use a bigger filtration system than the size of system installed. I have a dual HEPA filter four the size of the intake of the furnace at 6 inches thick per filter. Causes virtually no difference in velocity due to the immense surface area even when the filters are half clogged.
