Hey everybody welcome to swimuniversity.com. My name is matt javanese and today we're going to show you how to shock your swimming pool. Now, what you're going to need is a few things to get started. First, a bucket second pool shock third rubber gloves.

Fourth, some protective eyewear and finally, a stirring stick before you shock your pool. You want to practice safety first. That means you want to wear goggles. You want to wear gloves, and you want to wear clothes that you don't really care about, because we're going to be dealing with shock, which has a high concentrated amount of chlorine in it, which, if it splashes on you, it can bleach your clothes.

Okay. Now that we have the shock all mixed up and pre-dissolved in the bucket we're going to go, pour it around the entire pool. Now you want to make sure that your pool is on and you really want to shock your pool at night or dusk right now. It's the middle of the day, so we're just going to have to make do.

But when you do shock your pool, you want to shock it at night or dusk and let it run for eight hours overnight. So let's pour the shock inside the pool. So that's it all you want to do. Is you want to pre-dissolve each bag in a bucket of water? That means water first, then put in the shock mix it up with a stick and then pour it around your pool.

You want to do this with one bag of shock per 10, 000 gallons of water or one pound per 10, 000 gallons of water, and you also want to do it at night. You can just visit our website, which is swimuniversity.com, and thanks for watching you.

I have a question for anyone. Can’t find any info online and I’m a new pool owner. When shocking the pool, do you need to turn off an automatic chlorinator or remove a floating chlorinator while doing it? Is it ok to shock with whatever your normal chlorination method is still going? Any help truly appreciated.

Hi! I have dead algae in the bottom of my pool, and can't get it out. My pool is crystal clear, and then i will walk around in it, and the algae disperses and causes the water to get cloudy. I've shocked my pool a bunch using hth shock, and still have my chlorine tabs floating around. (my pool is a 13' round summer waves easy setup)

  13. Avataaar/Circle Created with python_avatars Eric Kimmy says:

What about a salt water pool? A guest at my hotel took a crap and I just had it open first time in 3 months. Going to back splash it and shock it in the morning. Do I still pre dissolve with a salt water system? Or just directly dump the 1 pound bag In the pool, and how long exactly until I can safely say they can return Are you in Kanata ?

It's much easier to take the filter cartridge out… Reassemble your filtration system without the filter. Take the shock packets and dump them into the skimmer next to the pool let the jets do the work for about 3 minutes. Then replace the filter. That's how I add in most chemicals except calcium chloride……
