The exhaust fan was way out of balance and we went to replace it but ran into a little problem.

Chris I just saw something new, it's called a sure switch. Maybe these new switches may work better in the desert area.
if you would of stepped on the screw and discovered it before you left, what is your plan? would you silicone it and tell the customer, or do you keep a product in the van?
Wake up on the drive and it's game time when you arrive.
Worked on many of those puppy's is it single phase not three phase nice job adjust that sheave pulley check rla run load amps yeah Keep positive air flow of the restaurant Service area Nepean??
As several characters in books I've read recently say:
Trust but Verify…
😄😁😆😅😂🤣 Service area Orleans??
How can you tell when a fan is out of balance?
Your running the motor in the star configuration
Awesome work ethic !
No such thing as Iwork in teamwork. Love to hear that you encourage your guys to be at the jobsite and ready to go. That is an important step, I believe, in a successful business plan, for a job. Happy to hear that each worker knows his/her work and all things come together. Chris again, your video's teach us more and more each and every time we see them, this is why we all continue to watch them. We appreciate your honest work ethic, how you treat your employees, and the way you explain things is fantastic. You need to give yourself some credit too, you make the videos, then do intros, and outros, so please give yourself a break with 'that just how my brain works' not saying that to offend, because my mind is around the same way as yours is, and I admit, I need to learn more at the age of 50 still, regardless, just saying that you also need to understand, we watch your videos because you do so much, for so many of us. In so many different ways, not just my way but other ways for other people. Cheers from Adelaide, South Australia.
Have changed several exhaust fan motors this year, teamwork is key to success.
Chris nailed it: having clearly-defined duties for your crew and having an organized plan makes the job much easier and smoother. Showing up early to the job site gives you the opportunity to make that plan, and you can even do a few run-throughs in your imagination which may help you find unexpected issues before you're up to your elbows in the job.
I also like having the external shutoff over the internal. Whatever reasonable means that can be taken to reduce the potential of injury should be implemented.
Congratulations on your continued success! Your channel is proof that you don't need flashy animated intros and stereotypical YouTuber Hype in order to make Front Page, achieve nearly 150k subs, and tens of thousands of views per video!
I just get fans from either CaptiveAire or Loren Cook company. Loren Cook is reasonably priced, union made, short lead times etc. And if I give them the design static, my zip code for the altitude above sea level, desired CFM, they adjust and test before shipping. At one restaurant I replaced the supply air fan as well, so no need for test/balance, all done at factory. CaptiveAire will also do the same thing or even engineer a complete ventilation system. I did have one wheel come off a Loren Cook fan, so what I do now is not only re-check all the set screws, on the wheel, and the pillow block shaft bearings, I remove the set screws one at a time, and put red high strength locktite on the set screws, then re-tighten as tight as possible without over torqueing. There should never be a need to ever replace the wheel in the service life of the fan, so it's better to be completely sure nothing is going to come loose. I had a pillowblock shaft bearing set screw come loose once as well on an older unit, the bearing still spun freely, but the shaft being loose wore it down. I guess the bearing inner raceway is harder steel than the 1" shaft, but that 1" shaft had ground down to more like 3/8", then the driven pulley snapped clean off! Never seen that happen before, but the belts weren't damaged, and I was able to get a new blower shipped under warranty. Still had to get a crane to lift the 18" blower up on the roof. This was on a 7500 cfm CaptiveAire conditioned makeup air unit. Their customer support is good, and I like that I can get parts directly from the manufacturer rather than trying to find something at a supply house or other reseller and paying too much for parts.
Another big time saver is both Loren Cook and CaptiveAire come shipped with external disconnect switches ready to go. No need to completely take the motor out. Just connect your power feed, attach the hinges and you're done. Saves a lot of man hours and parts. Service area Kanata??
Great video even though I'm not a wire nut fan. Do you ever use Wago connectors, they are superior.
Knowing how your and other minds work to me is a great way to learn. Thanks.
Keep up the good work Service area Ottawa??
I've seen manufacturers rebuilding exhaust systems like motors and pulleys to make them what you want because they don't have what you need exactly in stock
Don’t give the customer the option for the air balance. Include that in your quote from the get go, even when it requires subbing it out to a certified balance company. If the customer doesn’t want it done, move on. They can choose to hire some hack and you’ll be back for service calls to Fox what should’ve been done right to begin with.
I recently had a customer who lost a compressor (grounded) on a 120-ton carrier. Tested negative for acid, but oil sample showed higher than normal PPM of some metals… I highly recommended replacing both (2) tandem compressors on the circuit, removal/disposal of refrigerant, flush, filter core, starting components….. Customer only wanted the failed compressor replaced and to reuse the refrigerant. 2 weeks later, the second compressor went to ground…. They ended up paying nearly twice as much as they could’ve had they done it right.
Sometimes it’s better to simply refuse to perform the repairs if they aren’t going to go with the professional’s recommendations.
Model number aside, I always match the performance over actual model because manufacturers will change their model nomenclature from time to time or they find ways to use the same components but will change out the pulleys to get the same performance. This allows for less skews of parts when building the fans.
I have not been watching for 5 years. though the walk in coolers are starting to all look alike.
There's a lot of preparation work to do when you show up early. Making sure that there's access to all the areas you need to access, make sure no vehicles are in the way and make sure that areas for a crane and equipment to be lifted are secured off.
If everything goes well, then there's time to take a little break to at least get hydrated and relieved before the work begins. A rush job is a good way to make a mess.
What type of schooling is needed to become a TAB tech? I'm ready for a career change and that sounds interesting
My worst supplier f up was a 7.5 ton air handler. They gave me a cooling only AH. Didnt notice until we were done ceiling closed. On startup check list is when we figured it out.
Ended up just repiping and installing a check valve. But so true. Verify. I now let the supplier do the legwork then i verify.
I never want a job to go wrong due to someone elses mess up.
👍
HVACR Videos, Wires purple and red look like they're somewhat cut in half slightly or am I seeing things??
Chirs next time engrave the rotation on the pully
Great videos and content. About to get into the HVACR field down here in SoCal after doing 20 years of heavy automotive and always enjoyed the 609 side and electrical troubleshooting the most. Good information and great troubleshooting processes!
Great video as always! Can’t tell you how much I’ve learned from watching your videos.
508 Thumbs uP
Great Video. Thank you for sharing. Could I ask, what's type of motor have on hvac , what's type of belt motor have on hvac ? I go for interview job and they ask this.
I like how you work as a team.
That’s on you for not verifying it when you went to pick it up. Your own your own business and haven’t learned you can’t take peoples word yet. Are you in Barrhaven ?
Interestingly, the label on that motor said "Orientation: Horizontal", but it's mounted vertically in that application. I wonder if the longevity will be affected or if the fan manufacturer even noticed when sourcing motors for their fans? Also not great: "Protection: None" Love your videos. Your work ethic and humility put most of your competitors to shame. Are you in Ottawa ?
That danger sign about propane is not accurate no smoking,no open flames, don't huff vapors of propane don't touch light switches it needs to say more of these rules
The only things in life that are 100% is tax and death Are you in Kanata ?
I love when my accounts complain about me coming on site early to assess things only to realize that they should have let me be there early. Proper planning prevent piss poor performance.
Chris we appreciate your quirky amazing skills..please keep it going watch every single an thumbs up 👍 every time
Thanks! I really enjoy watching your updates
With out being specific about your cost of renting a crane, have you ever thought about getting your own? Obviously justifying the cost for how often it is used is the concern but contracting it out when you don't need it would make it an asset. I'm saying this very humbly and completely respect your decisions, but have you considered doing new installs? I can see you as a foreman/supervisor quaterbacking and orchestrating new installs because your attention to detail and keeping quality control. I always look forward to your videos and learned a TON (no pun intended)
Arriving 30+ minutes early is early….15 minutes early, is on time….."on time" is being late. Thats how I've always rolled. I actually despise being late for anything. It is a pet peeve of mine
I usually eat breakfast at the site Ive prepared the evening before, so I arrive some 10-15 minutes before work so I can chow down without choking myself.
